What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The professional staff of MRHS provides an array of health care and social work services, which include case management, nursing care, psychiatric consultations, doctors' "house calls" for the homebound, entitlements counseling, home evaluations, home care and hospital discharge planning, liaison with families, lawyers, physicians, and financial planners.

The MRHS Cluster Care Program provides home care services by certified home health aides. Cluster Care may include personal care, bathing, shopping, laundry, and light housekeeping.

The MRHS Mental Health Services Project provides services for the mentally-impaired elderly, including those afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease. MRHS utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach, which includes the coordinated interventions of our psychiatric social worker, geriatric nurse, psychiatrist, and where needed, geriatric physicians and home health aides.

In addition, educational, recreational, and social activities are offered --- most of them planned and led by older adult volunteers. Volunteers also provide direct, concrete assistance to their neighbors, such as escorting, visiting, and reading.

Morningside Gardens consists of six high-rise buildings, and approximately 1,600 residents --- nearly 40% of whom are over the age of 60. Many of the older residents have lived in the Gardens since it opened for occupancy in 1957 and have "aged in place". As a result, the complex has been designated a "NORC" --- Naturally Occurring Retirement Community --- with a large population of elderly people with special needs.

MRHS aims to meet these needs with the aforementioned array of health, social, recreational, and educational services. MRHS serves about 250 residents a year and provides opportunities for volunteering and community-building.
