THE WAY MOVIES ARE MEANT TO BE SEEN

aka Crandell Theatre   |   Chatham, NY   |  www.crandelltheatre.org

Mission

The Crandell Theatre aims to promote and develop an appreciation of film and filmmaking that enriches the social, cultural, and educational experience of the community, family life, and individuals. Screening mainstream and independent films, we operate and maintain a 1926 historic movie house on Chatham’s Main Street, which also happens to be the oldest and largest single-screen movie theatre in Columbia County. FilmColumbia, Crandell Theatre’s signature program, is an annual ten-day festival of world-class films representing major studios, independents, international films, animated features, documentaries and children’s short films. In addition to screening approximately 50 films, the festival also features panels, Q&A sessions with filmmakers and a popular screenwriting workshop.

Crandell Kid Flicks

Crandell Kid Flicks, which launched in January 2023, is a new family-friendly Saturday matinee series of contemporary classic children’s films (animated and live action) offered during the school year on the fourth Saturday of each month at 1 pm. The series aims to provide the youngest moviegoers with fun, safe, exciting and positive opportunities to become engaged in the arts. Chatham’s beautiful, historic, single-screen movie house is the backdrop for an afternoon of educational fun that puts each film into special focus for these budding film lovers. Crandell Kid Flicks was created for Chatham-area families with children ages 3-12 in mind. Each film is paired with guest presenters and fun, theme-centered activities.
