What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Conjunto in the Community - Intergenerational Classes and Conjunto Jams
"Conjunto in the Community" is an intergenerational music program that provides low-cost accordion and bajo sexto classes to youth, adults, and community elders five days a week at our studio in the historic Lavaca - King William neighborhood of San Antonio. In addition to our studio classes, CHT offers free off-site accordion lessons to seniors at senior centers around the city.
Our students are given the opportunity to perform at various community events and festivals across the city including the King William Parade & Fair, Tejano Conjunto Festival, First Friday Jams, Annual Tardeada, Dia de Los Muertos, and others. Our jam sessions feature our master instructors playing alongside their students, encouraging mentorship beyond the classroom setting, and offering both professional and amateur musicians a venue to share their talents and learn from each other.
The Conjunto in the Community program helps us fulfill our mission to preserve and perpetuate the Mexican American/South Texas tradition of Conjunto music.
Senior Classes
Our senior accordion class offers free instruction at a local senior community centers. The 8-week program meets twice a week for 2-hours and culminates in a recital. The program is repeated later in the year at another senior center.
