Human Service Programs

Programs and services like our Basic Needs Pantry, Supported Employment Services, Work Train and Vehicles to work programs, Community Health Worker Services, High School Equivalency Classes, Legal Clinic, After and Summer School programs at various Syracuse City School District sites ensure we are providing community members services they want and needs.
Comprehensive Services for older adults include congregate breakfast and lunch, exercise, activities, technology assistance, senior neighborhood advisor and transportation are critical to support older adults in our community in their ability to remain in their own homes and live socially connected lives.
After School Services
We provide after school and summer programming at various sites in the Syracuse City School District.
Senior Programs
Westcott Community Center offers comprehensive programming to support the health and well-being of senior citizens in order for them to stay active and healthy, connect with others, and maintain their independence. Through a variety of activities—such as daily nutritious lunches, exercise classes, health and wellness information, socialization activities, transportation for appointments and shopping, and referrals—the Westcott CC offers a multitude of opportunities that promote and support healthy aging.
High School Equivilency -Adult Education Services -Literacy and Math
We offer 2 programs geared at helping adults gain literacy and math skills and go on to acquiring their HSE certificate.
One program is a lower literacy level program for adults and ESL learners focusing on adults who are at approximately the 3-6th grade education level.
The other, a High School Equivalency works to teach skills in all areas in order for adults to pass their HSE exam and help gain employment.
Supported Employment Services
Our Supported Employment program utilizes a coaching model which empowers individuals to set career goals as they are supported throughout their journey to acquire additional skills, education, employment, or advanced employment. Our Supported Employment Specialist can help those who need to find educational opportunities such as High School Equivalency classes, office skills and other training programs located in Syracuse. They can also help with resume writing support, job searches and connections to area employers and job fairs. Assistance with obstacles in finding employment or advanced employment are also available like help with transportation, acquiring identification, childcare referrals, and other supportive services.
Work Train Program
Westcott CC’s Work Train program works with individuals who are interested in and would benefit from the skills training programs of the Work Train Initiative. We can provide information about programs, help with filling out necessary enrollment paperwork, and help support individuals while enrolled in Work Train programs to support program success and completion.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We are working toward supporting seniors and youth in a more comprehensive way on the east side of the city of Syracuse. We strive to add needed programming to more seniors and work toward ensuring all seniors in our area have increased support and quality of life in order to live independently and safely as long as possible.
We are also working to provide food subsidy programs for seniors and area residents.
Providing youth services afterschool in order to help them stay safe, increase opportunities to experience their world though art, music, STEM acitivities and help them stay focused on staying in school is another primary goal of our organization.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We collaborate with a variety of area stakeholders to provide services for residents of the east side of the city of Syracuse. With continued program monitoring and program adjustments were necessary we look to increase service capacity and quality.
Continued sources of funding are necessary for us to reach our goals and we are working to acquire additional funding sources through increased grant writing and fundraising activities.
Improvements in data management and ability to better understand the story our data is telling us is work we have focused on for the last two years. This year we published our first Annual Report. We will continue to look at programs and services with a critical lens to insure we are meeting the community needs.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Through strong partnerships and community support we are working to fulfill our goals.
We have an active Board of Directors who bring with them expertise in a variety of areas to help guide our organization. Our staff is knowledgeable and committed to our client base and we follow best practice procedures for service provision.
Finding appropriate sources of funding is a consistent goal for our organization and this year we were pleased to gain United Way of CNY funding for the first time. We will continue to work to ensure funding priorities are met.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Community residents are in need of food subsidy. Although we serve lunch each day to seniors and utilize Food Bank of CNY Food Sense program we are in need of a food pantry to better serve local residents. We have not been able to acquire funding or make gains in this area of need in our community.
