Mission

On Site Volunteer Services was established in 1995 as a way to provide college students with the opportunity to manage a private not-for-profit community service agency. The basic purpose of this team of young leaders is to engage their peers and residents of the greater-Ithaca community in volunteer service. In turn, the time and talents of volunteers are aimed at leveraging the programs and services of local community organizations.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT TRAINING seeks to equip students with the tools to be community leaders and champions of civic involvement. By combining peer-driven training with immediate exposure to a dynamic and entrepreneurial workplace, OSVS student-employees acquire valuable management experience. They partner with social and human service-providers, business leaders, government, the media and donors to deliver and sustain the programs and services of OSVS. By the time they reach graduation, OSVS employees have already proven they can be effective team players, leaders, motivators and community organizers.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES aims to make getting involved easy by offering an ongoing schedule of diverse and meaningful volunteer projects and events. OSVS works with local nonprofit agencies to create volunteer opportunities and addresses those needs by recruiting suitable volunteers.

SITE MANAGEMENT aims to leverage nonprofit agencies with focused and well-executed group volunteer projects. By strengthening rather than duplicating programs and services, OSVS seeks to maximize volunteer contributions, expand capacity and leverage public funding for social and human services.

EVENTS MANAGEMENT aims to make local events and festivals volunteer driven and community-building activities. By offering event organizers unique value-added services, OSVS seeks to create diverse and meaningful opportunities for people to support community-strengthening events.
