"Ministering to Those Who Minister"
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Statistics show 100's of pastors are leaving or forced out of ministry every month. Pastors are facing increasing challenges. Pastors are human and they have personal challenges such as dealing with criticism, family problems, stress, depression, burnout, sexual temptations and financial problems. These are only a few of the challenges a pastor may be experiencing. Pastors lack the relational support we all need for stability and resilience. We all need people we can lean on, trust and call on during the challenges of life. Who does a pastor or their spouse turn to when they need a safe place to process life's difficulties? Most church members have never considered this question. Pastors need a safe place. In order to finish well, pastors need a safe place that will be non-judgemental, and a place that will provide outside encouragement, counsel and accountability. This will enable them to live and serve out of spiritual, emotional and relational health and well-being.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pastoral Preventative Care
The purpose of Preventative Care is to offer coaching and encouragement to pastors and their spouses before they need more intensive care.
This includes the "Pastor's Ally" and "The Confidante", which gives pastors and spouses the relationship support they need to stay the course of ministry. Pastors and spouses in this program are provided with:
- A trusted pastoral relationship
- Ongoing communication and care
- Resources igniting growth in the pastor's family and church
When they receive this unique and necessary support, they:
- Make better decisions
- Are more effective in managing their time
- Have more to give their spouse and children
- Find increased vitality and resilience for ministry
Pastoral Intensive Care
Pastors have many responsibilities, and with those responsibilities come many challenges. Often, pastors lack the relational support needed to overcome these challenges, which leaves them vulnerable to a wide variety of issues they cannot cope with on their own. Issues such as Empathy Fatigue, Marital Challenges, and Church Conflict drive many pastoral families to the brink of quitting ministry. In these situations, pastors and their spouses require focused care and counseling to help meet their needs.
Pastors and spouses that come to us for Intensive Care are provided with a safe place where they can begin to work through their emotional and spiritual wounds. As they begin spiritual and emotional healing, we walk beside them pastor-to-pastor.
Those in our Intensive Care program have a variety of counseling options, including:
- Phone counseling
- Video counseling
- In-person counseling
- Week-long intensives
When pastors receive this intensive level of care, they:
- Recuperate from the physical, emotional, and spiritual demands of ministry
- Find healing and restoration for their marriage and/or ministry
- Are better equipped to handle the challenges associated with ministry and the church
Care for Churches
The purpose of Care for Churches is to provide preventative care for church pastoral staff and their spouses. Through this program, we offer coaching and encouragement to pastors and their spouses before they need more intensive care. With Care for Churches, we provide:
- Evaluations of the strengths and challenges being faced by the team and by the church
- One-on-one pastoral time with the Sr. Pastor, pastoral staff and their spouses, providing the safe pace they long for in ministry
- Interactions and meetings with non-pastoral church leaders to promote unity, inform on the struggles and challenges that pastors face, and demonstrate how to work together as a team
- Ongoing counsel with pastoral staff as needed
- Complete confidentiality with the counselors of Care for Pastors, Inc and each member of the pastoral staff and their spouses
The Confidante for Pastor's Wives
There are many challenges a woman will face in this life, and ministry can add to those challenges. To rise up and conquer these challenges, we believe every pastor’s wife needs a confidante. Someone they can confide in with the utmost sense of trust and confidence. Someone who will listen more than talk, suggest more than direct, and come alongside more than try to lead them.
The Confidante is a program of care crafted specifically to provide pastors’ wives the supportive relationship they need to be who God called them to be.
The vision of The Confidante is to be the safest place for pastors’ wives where they can be themselves and have a Confidante that can help them deal with the challenges of ministry. This will enable them to be the helpmate God intended them to be. It is our goal to help in the following specific areas that pastors’ wives deal with:
- Expectations
- Balance
- Loneliness
- Identity
We are meeting those needs through the following local events:
Brunches
Sleepovers
Spa Nights
Retreat
The heart of this initiative is relational support every woman needs, and every pastor’s wife deserves!

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To see every pastoral family persevering in ministry, developing a healthy church and leading in community transformation. With healthy pastors comes healthy churches. Ultimately, the Gospel is propagated through healthy churches making disciples. (Matthew 28:19)
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Care for Pastors has created comprehensive programs of care for pastors and their families: Preventative Care and Intensive Care. "Preventative Care" offers coaching and encouragement to pastors and their spouses BEFORE they need more intensive care. This includes the Pastor's Ally, The Confidante for Pastors' Wives, and Care for Churches. "Intensive Care" provides a safe place where pastors (and their families) can begin a work through their emotional and spiritual wounds. As they begin spiritual and emotional healing, we walk beside them pastor-to-pastor.
Vitality and resilience are two important traits every pastor needs to finish well in ministry. These traits are the result of healthy, supportive relationships that promote spiritual and emotional health. The Pastor's Ally Program was created just for this purpose. This program will provide pastors with Allies who will meet their need for relational support to increase their effectiveness and longevity in ministry. Pastors in this program will enter into a relationship with a God-called, seasoned, gifted, healthy pastor who will connect with him once a month to inquire, listen, share insights and pray together. Affirmation & Encouragement Man standing in victory on a mountaintop
We all need encouragement as well as affirmation, and pastors are no exception! During the course of ministry there is great value in stopping and taking the time to revisit God's call on your life to the pastorate. The Affirmation and Encouragement Program will give pastors the increased courage, added confidence and renewed hope to meet their pastoral obligations and stay energized on the course of ministry and finish well.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Care for Pastors has provided a well-established foundation of pastoral care through counseling, encouragement and resources for over a decade. Our staff of counselors, staff support team and large volunteer base provides the necessary platform for Care for Pastors to provide a safe place for pastoral families. The uniqueness of our pastoral counselors is an intentional strategy of providing a pastor-to-pastor relationship for counseling. This also applies to our Confidante for Pastors' Wives which is pastor wife-to-pastor wife. In addition, Care for Pastors has the endorsement and counsel of those on our Advisory Board which is made up of nationally recognized Christian leaders from varied backgrounds to provide scope direction. In order for Care for Pastors to ensure that those who donate to our organization, we have the certification of the Evangelical Counsel for Financial Accountability. (ECFA Seal of Approval)
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since measurement began in 2011 for key statistics, 9 out of 10 pastors who have come to us have remained in ministry. To God be the Glory! The impact of Care for pastors in that time period has continued growth of the number of pastors and/or spouses that God had entrusted us to serve: 2011- 147 served | 2012- 308 served| 2013- 429 served | 2014- 464 served | 2015- 574 served | 2016- 782 served. Work and partnership has begun in pilot phases with 2 national organizations for 2017/2018 in providing our services and ministry through a network that will be measured for impact and sustainability in ensuring pastors get/remain healthy. As continued funding is provided, this will enable Care for Pastors to help even more pastors and/or their spouses while remaining in scope with our Mission and Vision.
