What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Hilbert College Institute for Law and Justice supports criminal justice, social service and related community support agencies by enhancing their ability to deliver services. Working with these agencies, the institute develops projects and seeks funding from a wide variety of sources to conduct research that will enhance present knowledge related to issues of law and justice. The institute also sponsors seminars and workshops on various topics, including counter- and bioterrorism, domestic violence, and the latest on criminal justice education. The new Hilbert Center for Rehabilitation Studies serves as an educational foundation for students and working professionals. As part of this initiative, a rehabilitation studies major has been added and is the only undergraduate program of its kind in Western New York. Also, enhanced on-campus services will be provided for students with disabilities who are enrolled in any of the college's programs. For working professionals, coursework will be offered off-site at agency locations on timely topics in the field. In another area, the Hilbert Elder Scholars Program creates a special community between the elder group and students in the Honors Program. It is designed to draw a retiree contingent age 50 and older into the learning environment with college-level course participation and other activities, like informal book and discussion groups and a speaker series targeted to seniors.
