What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

MCB has four current areas of activity.

--It sponsors the annual Massachusetts Book Awards and year-long reading promotion of the 12 works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry & children's literature honored

-- It administers the annual reading and writing program, Massachusetts Letters About Literature, in which school-age children write to authors about books that have influenced them

--It trains librarians and other community service workers to deliver an innovative family literacy initiative that introduces young families to the visual and textual richness of picture books and to the links between themes in the books and fundamental investigations in math and science
--It developes and promotes cultural tourism opportunities in Massachusetts that foreground books, writing, and libraries.
