Mission

At the start of 2004, we got an idea to start a new kind of Christian family ministry together. As new parents ourselves, we became acutely aware that there seemed to be little support and education within churches for expecting couples and parents. Generally, it seemed parents within the Christian community had to look outside their respective churches to attend classes, find support groups, and receive encouragement as they journeyed through the experiences of growing their families. Scripture clearly charges us as believers to care for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We saw an opportunity to use the skills, education, and experience we were already using outside the church to minister to those families inside the Christian community. What we discovered was that just as many, if not more people from outside our church were attending our classes and wanting more. We realized that more people could be served if we expanded beyond our church and made ourselves readily available to the whole Denver Christian community. As a result, we took a giant leap of faith and started, Xylem Family Resource. The mission of Xylem Family Resource is to support, encourage and educate families from pregnancy through parenthood.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

There are two branches of Xylem: The Family Preparation branch cares for couples wishing to start a family and those who are already expecting. Resources include Fertility Awareness, Early pregnancy, Childbirth and Breastfeeding.

The Family Nurturing branch is designed to care for parents and families from the moment the baby arrives on through the teenaged years. Resources include Parenting Classes, Support Workshops In-Home Family Coaching and Playgroups.

Other services Xylem will provide are a lending library of childbirth, parenting, and other related resources, a pre-screened resource list for those services we cannot provide (including babysitters, tutors, family doctors, counseling resources, etc.), new baby welcome baskets, scholarships and sponsorships for those with financial limitations and volunteer and community outreach opportunities.
We also sponsor a weekly play group which plans events around the city to help new parents connect with others in their church community.

In addition, our website provides a valuable resource of forum topics for participants to find others in their specific stage of life to converse with online and ask questions of Xylem professionals.
