What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

There is a gap in the school programs in STEM and environmental education. We provide scholarships for schools to attend programs in these areas. We also provide free lectures from researchers for the community. Our work also helps makes the Science Center and the surrounding lands inviting for guests to recreate.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Moms, Pops and Tots

The Center piloted a program to teach parents how to safely take their young children out of doors. It proved popular and is being replicated at other facilities.

Population(s) Served
Infants and toddlers

School children do hands on experiments to learn about insects and animals that live in the water and iimportance of water quality to their every day life.

The program is conducted for an entire week serving approx. 150 -200 children.

Children and youth

The FCCSC created a scholarship program to defray the expensive costs of field trips to the center. Teachers can select from a list of topics such as Alaskan Animals, Salmon, STEM, or Alaskan Plants.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We hope to inspire a sense of wonder, increase understanding of science, and promote stewardship of the environment.

We try to get funding to provide scholarships for students in near Title 1 and Title 1 schools. Our raised funds also help provide free community events.

Under the current center leadership many new things are happening. New free programming is added to the calendar and staff is able to accommodate both in person and virtual field trips.

The center is creating a variety of virtual education programs. They are also creating new in-person educational events and lectures as well.
