What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

At Mission-Haiti we believe that meaningful and lasting change has a direct correlation to quality, Christian leadership. Haiti has been crippled by ineffective and corrupt leadership for many years and it has caused much suffering. Through our programs, Mission-Haiti is developing and equipping the current and future leaders in Haiti while learning from and sharing the love of the greatest leader of all time, Jesus Christ.

Orphanage Family

Orphans are often looked down upon in Haiti. For this reason, the Mission-Haiti orphanage was created to provide a loving home for these children. We know that each of the kids in this home are cherished by their heavenly father and will be covered with our love. God has commanded us to look after orphans in their distress, (James 1:27) and we have found it to be one of the greatest joys.

Mission-Haiti’s orphanage is not your typical orphanage. Our focus is to provide a loving family environment for our kids, instead of just a place to sleep and some food to eat. The orphanage family has a mom, Gertrude Chery, and dad, Lubin Dorsainvil, who provide the highest level of love and care for our kids. The kids refer to them as Mama Gertrude and Papa Lubin while referring to each other as brother and sister. While fun is a part of every day, family members are responsible for daily chores, devotions, worship, school tutoring and volunteering in the community. Our orphanage family is a truly special place where, thanks to our Haitian staff, our kids have a loving home and feel the unconditional love of Jesus on a daily basis.

For years Mission-Haiti has had a Haitian led Elderly Care program in which our evangelism team would visit elders in the mountains who needed some extra care and support. After hurricane Matthew, Mission-Haiti found that many of the elders' homes were demolished and they were left with nowhere to turn.

As everyone who has visited the Sid & Marie Home for the Elderly knows, it is not your average retirement home and our family is not your average group of elders! It is a place where love is shared, God is glorified, and joy is very present and the residents interact and are treated like a family.

These incredible men and women have brought an unexpected blessing to us here at Mission-Haiti. Their faithfulness inspires anyone who has the pleasure of spending time with them and their lives continue to honor and glorify God. The residents are provided with:
A safe, loved filled home.
3 meals a day.
All needed health care.
activities and daily walks
End of life care

Our school sponsorship program help more than 2,600 individuals receive and education. Most of those students attend one of our 9 Christian schools that we operate in Ti Rivy and the surrounding communities. These schools provide our students with a high quality education while learning Biblical truths on a daily basis. Our prayer is that these schools will continue to equip our students and staff with the knowledge and faith needed to break free from the cycle of poverty while coming to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

The students in our schools are supported through partnerships with individual sponsors in North America. Through these sponsorships we focus on building relationship between sponsor and student through photos, stories, letters, prayer and trips to the students home if the sponsor visits Haiti.

Training up disciples is our number one goal. Faith in Christ comes by hearing the Word of God. We have an incredible team of native missionaries that put in countless hours climbing mountains every week to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many who have never heard it. This is done through prayer, reading scripture, and acts of service to those in need. Our hope is that the actions of our evangelism team will show others God’s love.

Since its opening in March of 2019, Lanmou San Fin (LSF) Health Center has been providing excellent primary care services to Ti Rivy and surround communities.

The healthcare system in Haiti is quite broken, often lacking in resources and treatment options. The people in our community often can't even reach it! Our clinic positioned right in the middle of Ti Rivy offers an accessible and necessary resource, truly offering a lifeline to a group of people who would have a difficult time finding healthcare before. At LSF, we strive to bring a new culture of healthcare, offering a quality service in a clean, modern, and pleasant atmosphere.

We are proud to boast an entirely Haitian medical staff under the leadership of management of Dr. Mary Schimtz (board member/US Medical Advisor) and Bethany Perissien (Medical Administrative Director). We employee 20+ individuals to provide excellent healthcare:
-full time physicians, nurses, lab & medical techs, and non-medical staff

Our Mission-Haiti Ministry centers are multi-purpose spaces where our motto to love Jesus, love others and make disciples is lived out through different extracurricular activities and Haitian led programs. We offer Awana Bible Club for elementary aged kids, Awana Next program for high school aged kids, Music Program, English Class and an Adult Literacy Program all free of charge. In addition to these programs, Mission-Haiti offers two movie nights each week where members of our communities can come together, buy some popcorn from our Haitian led concessions stand and enjoy a movie.

Our hope is that our Ministry Centers will continue to be places where people grow closer to God, learn new skills, express themselves creatively and equip themselves for a different future.

The idea o a Block Company started in 2013 as we saw the unavailability of good quality blocks for the various construction projects we were building. To make this dream a reality, we partnered with the dispatch project and notably Gene VanderGriend. Gene would make numerous trips to Haiti while building different block machines and cement mixers to help The Block Company provide state of the art cement blocks. The blocks are purchased by different individuals and business in our communities and have been used by MH to not only build homes for families in need but also schools, medical clinic, and churches. The blocks are built to the highest standard, to make sure that all construction is hurricane and earthquake proof. Two things we are proud of is that the Block Company provides good quality jobs for many in the community
and is a ministry that is self-sustaining.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our number one goal at Mission-Haiti is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ so that everyone we come in contact with will have the opportunity to find the peace and joy that is only possible through a personal relationship with our Lord. We believe that the best way to do this is to come alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters through partnerships, providing high quality education and providing opportunities for people to create a life for themselves and their families that may have seemed impossible.

We believe the best way to create spiritual, economical and physical generational change is through the developing and equipping of leaders in Haiti. Mission-Haiti firmly believes that our programs need to be ran and operated by Haitian men and women. We have found the most success and effectiveness in our programs when locals are empowered to be the driving force behind the change they want to see in their country.

Mission-Haiti has been and will continue to be effective in Haiti because of the incredible people who serve with us. From our Board of Directors in America to our incredible Haitian staff in Haiti, we are only as capable as our people are. Mission-Haiti has developed deep roots and relationships with the communities we serve and through these relationships we are able to find quality people, learn about needs and how we can meet them and ensure that in everything we do, we are showing the utmost respect to the people and their culture. Over the years we have learned to build programs around systems instead of people. When we do this we are capable of continuing highly effective operations even we lose a quality member of our team.

In 2020, Mission-Haiti employed over 335 Haitian men and women.

Mission-Haiti supports over 2,500 students in our sponsorship program for the 2020-2021 school year.

99% of the students in our sponsorship program continue onto secondary education.

The Ministry of Social Affairs in Haiti recently recognized Mission-Haiti's orphanage at one of the top 2 in south Haiti.

Over 2,000 patients treated at our LSF clinic in its first 8 months of operation.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
