Hope and Help for Children with Cancer in New Jersey

aka ASHLEY LAUREN FOUNDATION   |   Brielle, NJ   |  www.ashleylaurenfoundation.org

Mission

Hope & Help for Children with Cancer in New Jersey The goal of The Ashley Lauren Foundation is to ease the journey when a child is diagnosed with cancer by providing direct financial, material and emotional assistance, along with our many programs developed to bring smiles to these children. Unlike national organizations that fund research, we are an independent, New Jersey-based non-profit organization, working hands-on with each family. The Ashley Lauren Foundation depends on the support of the community-at-large to provide immediate relief for the daily burdens thrust upon those who are battling pediatric cancer.

Notes from the nonprofit

This foundation exists because we have first-hand experience dealing with the heartaches and devastation pediatric cancer can manifest itself in the individuals with this disease. Working to bring "Hope and Help to Children with CANCER in New Jersey" is our passion. The Ashley Lauren Foundation's beneficial work can only continue with your generous philanthropic donations.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

One of the most significant needs for a family battling pediatric cancer is financial assistance – Monica can personally attest to that. The requirements are so vast, and we are committed to doing all that we can to help in this area. We have been receiving referrals from families who are in jeopardy of losing their home, not affording their household utilities; health insurance, etc. because they are missing time from work and their medical bills are so enormous. Also, we have been receiving referrals from families who can no longer afford the medications not covered by insurance yet needed for their child. They find themselves without transportation to and from their child’s treatment center. As unbelievable as all of this might sound, it is true. As we started the foundation our referrals were few and manageable; every month our outreach is touching more and more families, the biggest challenge of the foundation is that we would have to turn away a child in need.

The Ashley Lauren Foundation bring the children and their families to a harvest farm. Harvest is our theme which the foundation weaves in lunch, music, and entertainment. Hayrides, pumpkin patch and even a Clydesdale horse add to the excitement providing rides for attendees are some of the activity highlights. This party encourages hope and creates smiles for these children and their families removing them for a little while from their daily medical challenges.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Goals:
1. Ease the journey when pediatric cancer is diagnosed
2. To offer financial, material and emotional support to the child and family affected
3. To Bring smiles to these children’s’ faces

The Ashley Lauren Foundation runs three main fundraisers annually; this independent foundation relies on funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Achievements:
1. Sheltering families from declaring financial bankruptcy
2. Keeping families from losing their homes because of financial hardships
3. Funding travel expenses for many families in order for their child to receive expert medical treatment.
4. Developed partnerships with over 14 Medical Hospitals and Children’s Medical Centers

We are a hands-on foundation which started in 2006 who have continued to raise funds which successfully actively assists 100-150 children at any given time. Realistically, there is a growing need for this service, and we have extended our reach beyond our local community partnering with such organizations as Rutgers University and expanding our board members to grow the foundation resources.

This work has been blessed with many partnerships inclusive of medical facilities, colleges, corporations, small businesses and individuals who are happy to give their time, talent and treasure to ensure this work continues.

Our services need to increase as it is financially viable and reflective of the referrals received. In the distant future, our dream is to have a physical building, a safe-haven for children and their families, to walk away from the everyday burdens of this devastating situation. The building would be our "HAPPY PLACE" providing free food and services for our clients.
