Village

The Game of Village is an integral part of our curriculum at Austin EcoSchool, offering an applied, cross-disciplinary, and innovative approach to life skills-based learning. Set within the historically themed context of our academic cycle, Village is a year-long project which allows students to explore an environment in full: the culture, social dynamics, infrastructure, geography, economy, government, and more. Students work both independently and together to build a miniature replica of a village from a focal time period, with functioning processes and systems in place. In doing so, they develop in skills in research, resourceful problem solving, collective decision making, effective communication, and hands-on construction – all within the setting of a fun game. The very nature of the Game of Village is solution-driven creativity – the goal is for the children to transform their knowledge and ideas into unique and practical application, to be shared with others.
