What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF) is the leading U.S. community foundation for high-impact social investments dedicated to Turkish and Turkish-American communities. Since 2007, TPF has mobilized over $55M and has invested over $28M in grants with partners focused on addressing economic, social, and environmental needs in Turkey and around the world. By providing support to realize the philanthropic vision of individuals, families, and corporations, TPF donors and partners have reached thousands of families and directly funded over 300 projects.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Pass Through Grant-Making

TPF partners with non-profit organizations in Turkey, which can raise funds in the USA through TPF. These funds are then granted to these organizations with the approval from the Board.

Population(s) Served
Adults

TPF offers certain fund types including Advised Designated and Friends of Funds that allow donors to remain engaged in the grantmaking process by suggesting uses for their gift. Donors make grant recommendation for a grant to a specific organization or a project once TPF's staff have ensured the recipient organizations a 501(c)(3) equivalent or in good standing and that the organization is financially sound and has filed the necessary tax documents. TPF's Board of Directors review and approves the grant. Grants are monitored and evaluated based on TPF's grant management procedures.

Population(s) Served
Adults

TPF partners with non-profit organizations in Turkey, which can submit application to be considered for a grant in the areas of education, gender equality, social and economic development, and disaster relief. All grants are approved by the Board of Directors.

Population(s) Served
Adults

TPF Stars Program supports overachieving young women in Turkey. Since 2013, TPF Stars Program provided scholarships to 40 female high school students all over Turkey through Cagdas Yasami Destekleme Dernegi. The Program will continue supporting these young women and send them to college starting 2018.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

TPF encourages the aspirations of individuals, families, and companies that want their philanthropy to make a lasting impact. Our professional staff works alongside donors to help them reach their goals. They offer expert guidance on donor strategies and investments, access to like-minded donors, and a vetted network of partners. TPF has developed a portfolio of funds and donor-centric giving programs that can support the passions and financial needs of givers with diverse objectives and means. We have extensive experience with financial planning and vehicles such as IRA and restate donations, scholarships, awards, and endowments. Over the last eleven year

Over the last fifteen years, it has helped to expand the engagement of the Turkish community in philanthropy. Our efforts in the core areas of social and economic development, education, gender equality and disaster relief have reached thousands of people – often changing lives in new and profound ways. Our network of partners continues to grow as does the impact and recognition of their work. TPF is pleased to be playing an essential role in helping Turkish and Turkish-American communities create opportunities for the future.

With a focus on four main impact areas: Gender Equality, Education, Social and Economic Development and Disaster relief, TPF tackles the most crucial challenges through its partnership with local NGOs in Turkey. TPF vets every organization that we partner with to ensure donations go to the right place. TPF is transparent about its actions, finances, and performance and ensures that 95-99% of contributions go directly to projects.

TPF has solid roots as the organization was built on fundamental values such as transparency, trustworthiness and excellence in service. The organization also has a solid trunk with its dedicated Founders, who planted the seeds, the Board of Directors, and the Management, who have invested immense amount of time and resources into the organization. The vision of TPF is to take philanthropy beyond the "feel good" into significant and measurable impact.

TPF’s ability to create sustained impact has been a focus since the establishment of the organization. Our current sustainability model is founded on the mutually reinforcing engagement of endowment investment, contributions of board members and support through TPF’s Annual Fund. Our model has enabled us to achieve financial stability by averaging 60% cost-recovery over the last six years. To reach 100% we continue to invest in the growth of our endowment.

In 15 years, TPF granted over $26m in 62 cities to more than 300 projects through partner organizations mobilizing thousands of people both in the States and in Turkey. With a strong endowment of $4.5 million, TPF established more than 30 philanthropic funds to assist donors with their personal philanthropy.
