Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Vibha seeks to identify, seed and scale solutions that can solve systemic problems related to the underprivileged child, through a cure that involves minimal external intervention with large scale societal impact.
Vibha's main focus areas are:
- Education
- Vocational training
- Healthcare (Care for physically and/or mentally challenged children)
- Rescue and rehabilitation of children in vulnerable conditions
- Disaster Relief
As a platform, Vibha brings together people that want to make a difference in the life of an underprivileged child (corporates, grass-root entrepreneurs, donors, volunteers, government agencies and partner NGOs).
Vibha supports without any discrimination based on gender, caste, religion, political affiliation or language.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Acting as a Social Venture Catalyst
Vibha's project selection philosophy is based on the fundamental principle of maximizing the impact of every contribution. Every project funded by Vibha needs to fit in with the mission and vision of Vibha. The project should not discriminate based on gender, caste, race, religion or language and should be a non-political, not-for profit organization. Apart from the above mandatory qualities expected out of every project, the project selection team has a set of qualitative criteria which will ensure the effectiveness of the project in accomplishing its goals. Vibha makes a concerted effort to select small to medium-sized projects.
Once selected, the social entrepreneur is provided with the necessary seed capital as well as know-how with constant project monitoring assistance through Vibha personnel and staff on the ground that ensures the project is meeting it's desired goals. If after a certain period of time (typically 3 years), the project has not achieved its goal of finding a scalable solution for the problem, Vibha starts a gradual exit process so as to ensure the project continues to benefit its beneficiaries with minimal disturbance.
If the project does achieve its goal of finding a scalable cure for the problem it is trying to solve, Vibha now plays the role of disseminating this cure far and wide through various channels including partner NGOs. In short, it strives to enable people to take responsibility for the situation of an underprivileged child.
2. Partnering with Government, Corporates, Local Communities and other stakeholders
While Vibha can play the role of identifying and fine tuning solutions, we also believe that Government of the respective geography is best positioned to scale and implement any socio-economic solution from an infrastructure and resource perspective. Vibha does not believe in creating parallel systems, we see value in fine tuning or filling the gaps in existing systems to make them more valuable.
The advent of Corporate Social Responsibility as a government policy in many countries has suddenly made available vast amounts of resources to the development sector. But oftentimes these corporates lack the bandwidth or expertise to deploy these resources. Vibha is uniquely positioned to help these organizations by playing the role of an implementation partner. The resources can be channelized to scaling of tried and tested solutions in the Vibha portfolio.
Mobilizing local communities as volunteers or donors in our efforts is a core tent of Vibha's philosophy. We will continue to invest in and scale these efforts.
3. Advocacy efforts
Where relevant and meaningful, Vibha involves itself in policy advocacy efforts to further the cause of child development.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
1. Due Diligence Audit/Solution Onboarding Process
Social Entrepreneurs are selected based on following
- the focus areas of the projects,
- target beneficiary groups of the projects and
- also certain evaluative criteria internal to the project and
- the demographics serviced by the projects.
2. Solution Mentoring/Model Development
Once a solution is on-boarded Vibha assigns a dedicated Project Lead/Solution Catalyst who is responsible for management and advisory support. The Solution Catalyst in partnership with the Social Entreprenuer is also responsible for developing annual budgets, progress reports as well as strategy and vision documents for further development and scaling of the solution model.
3. Growth Monitoring and Ongoing Audits
Vibha maintains a full time staff of senior social workers who make regular project visits, conduct reviews and document every visit in a detailed project visit report which feeds into the annual solution review process as well as in developing long term strategy. This monitoring is further augmented by surprise visits conducted by our volunteers and patrons. Where relevant and meaningful, a Vibha representative will sit on the Board of the partner organization.
4. Ongoing Training and Development Programs
The full time staff of senior social workers are also responsible for providing ongoing training to social entrepreneurs partnering with Vibha. Formal/Informal training is offered in the following areas
- Governance
- Fiscal Management
- Program Management
- Planning
- Resource Development
- Marketing & Communication
- Volunteer Management
- Human Resources
- Community Outreach

5. Pragathi - Biennal National NonProfit Conference
Pragati is Vibha's Bi-annual conference that brings all its partner projects to one platform with a mission to “Connect, Share and Leverage". Started in 2009 in Bangalore , Pragati has played an important role in developing a better understanding between Vibha and its partners. It also provides an environment for all our partners to learn from each other. Pragati has been extremely successful in facilitating the growth and impact of the work of several projects.
6. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives
Vibha has a dedicated Corporate Partnerships team which engages with corporates in the role of an implementation partner to help deploy CSR resources. The resources will be channelized to scaling of tried and tested solutions in the Vibha portfolio.
7. Global Innovation Hub
