Championing Ability….Enabling Success

What we aim to solve
One of the challenges for individuals with special needs is finding and retaining meaningful jobs in the mainstream work world. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, just 21% of Americans with disabilities are gainfully employed, vs. 69% of the non-disabled population. We know from experience that, with opportunity and support, individuals with cognitive disabilities are able to work hard, learn, achieve and deeply enrich workplace culture. And through satisfying work, they gain confidence, independence, and become productive members of the community.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to assist young adults with cognitive disabilities who are transitioning out of the school system to find stable, competitive employment. Through our time-tested model of one-on-one skills assessment, vocational training, job access and continuous support, we help individuals perform at their highest levels.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
There is no other program that we are aware of that is partnered with a national retailer to provide employment, and that supports its young adults through the life of their employment.
We position Ken’s Krew to corporate partners as offering services that represent good business practices, not just a charitable endeavor. We want to show the employer that they are making a sound business decision. We believe that if we can demonstrate, as we have over 21 years of operation, that we put the employer’s needs first, that employers will learn to trust us and be more supportive and less fearful of hiring employees with cognitive disabilities.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We employ a highly professional staff with varied educational accomplishments and professional skills who work tirelessly with our members to give them the additional support they need to maintain, and sustain, their employment over the long term.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have placed and trained 750 young adults over 21 years, including 100 in 2019 alone. Of those members, over 470 remain employed today, with 85% of our members having retained their jobs for at least one year. 82 of our members have been gainfully employed for 10 years, 33 for 15 years and 6 of our members have been steadily employed through our program with the same employer for 20 or more years.
