SOLEBURY TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The Solebury Township Historical Society's resources include preserved archives, oral histories, publications, its ca. 1755 schoolhouse headquarters, and the people who work to educate, promote and encourage an appreciation of Solebury Township history. The board of directors and membership volunteers reach out to individuals and businesses in our surrounding communities to provide educational programs, social gatherings, and assist those researching our increasing records of area family and historical information.
Currently seeking funds and/or grants for educational programs, marketing of organization, increase membership and volunteers (board members), and building maintenance.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Educatonal scholaships, lectures and workshops
Annual Ned Harrington Scholarship Fund to New Hope-Solebury AND Solebury School seniors.
Historical lectures regarding Solebury Township.
Grammar school tours of 1747 Solebury Schoolhouse
Impression-Sips
Three annual sessions to provide hands-on painting lessons from professional artists by using paintings from local world renown Impressionist paintings as a guide. Each work is completed during one session to take home.
Oral History Program
Oral history is the process of collecting, recording, and studying orally gathered information about events, individuals, families, and everyday life. Oral history also refers to the information so collected and preserved. These interviews can be captured as video tapes, audio tapes, or transcriptions of planned interviews. The interviews are usually conducted with people who participated in noteworthy events, were members of families of note, or because of longevity in an area, are knowledgeable about events. Much of the information obtained cannot be found in written sources.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Continue to increase and promote events, lectures, activities, and history of Solebury Township to surrounding communities.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
By increasing our technical resources, we will structure the scheduling of activities without conflicting with other area nonprofits. STHS is smaller than most area nonprofits, but we are very proactive and need to increase marketing our activities to increase attendance through social media and area publications. This strategy will increase donations for our operating budget.
We were fortunate to obtain the donation of a monitor for our ca. 1755 schoolhouse headquarters to visually accompany a speaker's presentation.
This new technology will enable STHS to share additional and detailed educational programs.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Seeking the resources from area artists, residents, and businesses that help to promote our Oral Histories Program. The stories from 4th, 5th, 6th generations of area residents enables us to share new historic facts of the area about the culture, properties, farming, and environmental factors.
There are also resources from county, state and national professional historic organizations that aid in the research of Solebury Township
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Added Facebook (Instagram to follow soon); participating in the 2018 New Hope-Lambertville Winter Festival; #GivingTuesday; included to the Heritage Conservancy Resister of Historic Places; shared program with Michener Art Museum of schoolhouse historical paintings; documenting, preserving, and revitalizing the use and the history of Aquetong Springs Park; and a new Planned Giving Program.
