Historically, • Nearly two-thirds of Israelis feel that “society is divided”, according to an October 2107 ADL poll. • Historically, internal conflict has always represented the greatest threat facing Israeli society. Over the centuries, the only threat that has succeeded in virtually destroying the Jewish people has come from within. • Due to Israel’s siloed educational system, very few opportunities exist for youth from different sectors of society to meet and interact with one another to develop trust, mutual respect, and establish common ground. • This distance leads to heightened stereotypes and ongoing strife, due to fear of the “other.”

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Young Leaders

The Gesher Foundation makes grants in Israel to support single- and multi-day encounters between religious and secular youth from Israeli high schools. These seminars create an opportunity for teens from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles who would not ordinarily meet to break down barriers, challenge misconceptions and build bridges of understanding and tolerance.

Population(s) Served

The Gesher Foundation makes grants in Israel to support tolerance and leadership education within the officer training course of the Israel Defense Forces. This program strengthens soldiers' Jewish and Zionist identities, clarifies values, heightens motivation and cohesiveness, and develops leadership.

Population(s) Served

The Gesher Foundation makes grants in Israel to nurture and train highly influential Israeli leaders to forge connections and unity between different sectors of the Jewish people. Through their day-to-day high-profile positions, these leaders act as change agents affecting those in their spheres of influence

Population(s) Served

The Gesher Foundation makes grants in Israel to support the four areas where Haredim and general Israeli society interface: IDF, Academia, Employment and the physical community. In each of these areas, we run cultural awareness seminars for both the Haredim and their secular/Religious Zionist counterparts to ensure that those Haredim who decide to enter general society can do so with minimal friction.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Gesher safeguards Israeli society by bringing together diverse sectors of the Jewish people and then breaking down barriers to unity through facilitated, face-to-face, confrontational dialogue. Participants in our programs tackle societal challenges that otherwise threaten the Jewish people’s delicate political, religious and communal equilibrium.

• Gesher IDF Officer Training Courses: We work with every one of the 6,000+ officers who graduate as IDF officers every year. Via facilitated dialogue, we bridge cultural, religious and social differences among army troops who come from the spectrum of society, and empower them to foster a shared, robust and vibrant future for the State of Israel as a whole.

• The Gesher Leadership Institute nurtures and trains highly influential Israeli leaders to forge connections and unity between different sectors of the Jewish people. Through their day-to-day high-profile positions, these leaders act as change agents affecting those in their spheres of influence.

• Haredi Initiative: We have identified the four areas where Haredim and general Israeli society interface: IDF, Academia, Employment and the physical community. In each of these areas, we run cultural awareness seminars for both the Haredim and their secular/Religious Zionist counterparts to ensure that those Haredim who decide to ente
