What we aim to solve
United Way of Transylvania County's mission is to build a stronger Transylvania by mobilizing our community to empower people to improve their lives. Simply put, we aim to be leaders in community relationships and network-building that help our neighbors live healthy, safe and stable lives.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
TRAIN
United Way of Transylvania County funds TRAIN: Transylvania Resource Access and Information Network.
TRAIN is a local collaborative network of public and private organizations, non-profits, governments and healthcare providers generating and analyzing local data to increase access to health and human service resources for Transylvania County residents.
TRAIN’s shared database network, meetings, newsletters, and educational workshops maximize community resources and reduce duplication of effort.
Connect
Connect identifies and serves the families of Transylvania County that are experiencing crisis, or are consistently engaging in behaviors that put them at extremely high risk for child abuse and neglect, and proactively coordinates services that will keep their children safe.
Connect is a collaborative formed of Transylvania County Department of Social Services, The Family Place, The Children's Center, Transylvania County Health Department, Transylvania County Schools, Brevard Academy, and The Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County.
Early Childhood Education
Because every child in deserves to succeed in kindergarten and beyond, United Way of Transylvania County seeks to ensure that Early Childhood Education resources are available to all families, regardless of income. Recently, United Way of Transylvania County paid for a van and funded Community Playgroups, a program to drive early childhood education resources and staff directly to remote and under-served areas of the county. There are approximately 1000 local children ages 0-5 who are not participating in any early education programs.
