Happy Hollow Foundation (HHF) is a non-profit organization, established in 1958 and dedicated to advocating, supporting and enhancing the Happy Hollow Park & Zoo. The focus of Happy Hollow Foundation is to engage individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies in helping to advance the park & zoo.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Education

Happy Hollow’s education program has classes for little learners (ages 1-4), tales for tots (ages 2-3), wild science (ages 4-6), junior keepers (ages 7-9) and zoo teen shadow (ages 10-13). Courses are offered in animal care, science and conservation.

Happy Hollow also takes live animal ambassadors to visit schools across Silicon Valley, including many Title 1 schools. Many programs correlate with California State Curriculum Life Science Standards.

The zoo at Happy Hollow is San Jose's premier accredited animal attraction and adheres to the highest of Association of Zoos and Aquariums standards, which include species conservation and survival plans. In 2018, Happy Hollow received an award from AZA for continuous accreditation for 25 years.

Our AZA-accredited zoo is home to species that are threatened, or critically endangered in the wild. The SSP program was developed in the early 1980's by AZA to help ensure the survival of threatened or endangered species in the wild.

Senior Safari Walkabout allows visitors to get some exercise while enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, with Animal Meet & Greets, highlighted routes for the 10,000 Step Program, and more. Now in its fifth year, Senior Safari has welcomed more than 6,000 participants. The free event is held once a month from May through October.
