What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Phoenix House
Phoenix House is a state-of-the art residential treatment program for adults with psychiatric challenges.Phoenix House has round-the-clock staffing and offers 20 hours of groups, counseling, and activities per week. Our goal is to help residents recover from mental illness and live as independently as possible in the community. The program stay is from 3 months to 18 months depending on each individual’s needs. While at Phoenix House, clients learn to manage and reduce symptoms, learn about recovery, and develop social, recreational, and vocational skills. We believe in empowerment and our staff is committed to help clients achieve their personal goals. Coordinating with families is often an important element of the treatment. Specialized drug and alcohol treatment services are also available to clients in a program we run that is conveniently located right next to the residential facility.
Mountain House
Mountain House is a residential facility serving the mentally ill and dually-diagnosed. It is a beautiful forested property on 2.84 acres with lofty oaks and sycamore trees. Mountain House is a uniquely idyllic and peaceful setting that enhances recovery from mental illness for the 14 residents. The residential program offers 12 hours of structured activity, around-the-clock staffing, and a counseling staff dedicated to helping clients recover from mental illness. We have a horticultural program on the property, in which our residents and outpatient clients participate. Although the length of stay at Mountain House is potentially unlimited, we encourage our residents to move on to a more independent living situation as soon as they are ready.
We have one private room available at Mountain House for private pay. Our other beds are contracted to serve the clients of Santa Barbara County Mental Health Services.
Mainstream
Mainstream offers specialized, individual treatment combining:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps individuals change self-defeating patterns of thinking. Research shows CBT is helpful in managing and reducing stress, depression, delusions, hallucinations and negative symptoms, such as lack of motivation.
Supportive Counseling – Using a 1-1 format, this is designed to address the unique challenges of people with schizophrenia and other diagnoses
Mainstream also offers a program designed specifically to help families facing the complexities of psychiatric disorders. Together, we develop strategies to enhance communication and loving, respectful connection. Important areas of focus are:
Assessing if expectations within the family are realistic
Developing ways to lessen emotional reactivity
Discovering the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” of effective communication
Finding the balance between helping too little and helping too much
Identifying and maintaining healthy boundaries
Addressing and finding remedies for the “Failure-to-Launch” syndrome
Mainstream also offers a variety of supportive services along with group outings and activities for clients.
Dual Diagnosis
The Dual Diagnosis Program offers state-of-the-art dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. Individuals who are dually diagnosed need specialized services. Our staff is trained to understand the complex relationship between sobriety and mental health. We believe anyone can achieve sobriety regardless of his or her diagnosis and we are willing to go the extra mile to help make this possible. The Dual Diagnosis Program services include individual, group, and family counseling.
