Ruby Holland Foundation

A gateway for future musicians

aka Ruby Holland Foundation   |   Apopka, FL   |  http://www.rubyhollandfoundation.org

Mission

The Ruby Holland Foundation for the Arts was created to continue Ruby’s life’s work by providing opportunities for aspiring musicians/artists to be able to pursue their studies in music and the arts through educational scholarship award grants, and arts related programs.

Notes from the nonprofit

Funding is the key to the success of our program activities. Our programs provide opportunities for the under-resourced students within the arts to not only expand, develop and refine skills in music, but also help them to move to the final cumulative step of college. We have only been able to provide benefits for 4 scholarship students out of 15 applicants. Much talent is waiting to be nurtured. Funding is critical.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Our problem is FUNDING!!. First step campaign is building awareness through Social Media exposure This is being done in tandem with working to find sustainable individual donors and working to established corporate donors within and outside of our direct community of Central Florida. Our first initiative of 2018 has already shown great results - 1 student is now a music major at Stetson University, Deland FL.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We focus on under-resourced talented students who are engaged in studies within the arts. We provide financial scholarships for them to be able to obtain advanced training and skills development. Our goal is to open doors of opportunity that were shut due to financial restraints. Now students are given the opportunity to explore their potential to the fullest. We are looking at life skills, the next level development process, foundation building and training..... steps into college, steps into career.

Our organization aims to make a difference in the lives of our youths!!!

Our programs are promoted:

* within the community through the guidance department of schools (Middle and High Schools), local music studios and schools

* on the Foundation's Website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

*at events and also through our local music association of teachers and clubs.

*at Foundation Events - Annual Music Competition & Scholarships' Award Ceremony

FUNDING:
*Individual fundraising - our campaign to build funds starts month of August through December.
through on line fundraisers (crowdfunding) auctions, post card follow-ups, cold calling etc.

*Corporate funding requests

*Government funding and grants [local, state and federal]

The above are all attainable through networking and the combined and concentrated efforts and works of our volunteers and individual supporters

1: We have successfully accomplished our very first initiative of 2017 and was able to offer tuition and board financial scholarship to 3 students. One student his now a music major at Stetson University, Deland Florida.
Second student is getting set to major in music education in college - year 2021 and the third a music minor, with a major in nursing.

2: We are building recognition within the community and the world through our works published on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

3: We have revamped our website for transparency, and user friendly. All applications forms for our programs are now ALL electronic and easy to submit

4:We have new partnerships - Amazon, The Woman's Club of Winter Park, bUneke Productions, Orfeo Music Festival and LogoMines

5:We have completed a documentary on the success of our first initiative of our 2018 Summer Studies Program which is being released on September 27th, 2020

done We demonstrated a willingness to learn more by reviewing resources about feedback practice.
done We shared information about our current feedback practices.
  • How is your organization using feedback from the people you serve?

To make fundamental changes to our programs and/or operations, To inform the development of new programs/projects, To strengthen relationships with the people we serve

  • What significant change resulted from feedback?

Covid-19 and having to cancel a major program activity, led to valuable feedback as to how we can maintain our course and yet achieve an equitable results oriented action plan. Feedback helped us to move to the next level necessary changes to deal with challenges of distancing due to Covid.

Data
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
Policies and processes
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
