BREANNA'S GIFT
An arts program for children with cancer and other serious illnesses
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Increase the number of children we serve around the country through our Art Takeout and Art Take2 programming. We serve children with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses by bringing them the magic of the arts.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Art Takeout
7 different art classes in a box for children too sick to attend group classes and for children in hospitals where our program is not currently available. Each box contains instructions and all the materials needed to to complete the project. "Make A Drawing,"Make a Sculpture," "Make a Mini Puppet," Make a Watercolor," Make a Sock Puppet,", "Make a Mosaic" and for the adults, "Inside the Lines," an adult coloring book to help take up long hours, days and sometimes months in the hospital.
Art Takeout serves the children in the hospitals that we serve in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as, hospitalized children with serious illnesses in Rochester, MN, Orlando, FL, Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Madison, WI and Richmond, VA.
Art Take2
Art Take2 is a library of video arts classes designed to serve seriously ill children who are unable to leave their hospital rooms. Beginning in March of 2020 this included all the hospitalized children that our programs serve due to Covid-19. Art Take2 was introduced in May of 2020. Video classes include dance, visual arts, music and performing arts. They are for seriously ill, hospitalized children in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. They are also sent to children's hospitals in Orlando, FL, Rochester, MN, Dallas, TX, Richmond, VA, Madison, WI and Los Angeles, CA.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The goal of Breanna's Gift is to reach as many children with cancer and other serious illnesses as possible with our arts program of dance, visual arts, music and performing arts. The classes are taught at health care residences and children's hospitals to provide an opportunity for seriously ill children and their families to step away from the daily routine of a sick child. To provide an opportunity to create and to be able to forget about the IV's, therapies, etc.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Breanna's Gift programming is free to all participants & facilities.
Strategies are to select artist/teachers & volunteers who are creative, gentle spirited & flexible & able to provide opportunities for creativity & can adjust to special needs of children. The kids are taught classes at Children's Minnesota in Minneapolis and Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare. Artist/teachers present projects to follow along & do from their hospital rooms via closed circuit programming. Increasing Art Takeout from 8 projects to more. Art Takeout and Art Take2 programming allows us to reach children & their families unable to leave their rooms. Projects and/or videos are also sent to hospitals where our classes are not taught, such as Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital in Rochester, MN. , Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, FL. Medical City Children's Hospital in Dallas, TX & American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, WI.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our current staff and funding resources allows us to accomplish our goals. To continue our program and to grow, we look to raise more funds through our annual fundraising event, third party events, grant opportunities and in-kind gifts of goods and services. This will give us the capability of increasing the number of artist/teachers and volunteers that work in our program; thus allowing us the privilege of working with a larger population of children. We will be capable of adding time spent at each location with additional classes on more hospital floors; of partnering with and expanding our presence via hospital closed circuit programming opportunities; offering more variety by partnering with and sponsoring live performances for the children and their families at all of our locations; looking for additional partnering opportunities such as bringing our program to summer camps for children with cancer; and expanding Art Takeout and Art Take2 to more hospitals across the country.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been able to make steady progress in all areas of the program. We have increased revenue each year, allowing us to increase our program reach. Over the last year, we have increased our reach by expanding our Art Takeout and Art Take2 programming to three new healthcare facilities: Children's National Hospital in DC, Crescent Cove children's hospice in Brooklyn Park, MN, and Cleveland Clinic.
