FOCUS Cleveland

St. Herman House – FOCUS Cleveland is an Orthodox Christian house of hospitality. We are a non-profit, 501c3, charitable organization committed to serving the homeless and poor of Ohio City and Cleveland in a spirit of love and hospitality. We have been in operation since September of 1977. St. Herman’s is solely owned and operated by FOCUS North America, which manages outreach centers and programs in cities around the country.

St. Herman House’s mission is to shelter and support homeless men on the path to well-being and independence and meet the basic needs of people in our community.

We have an emergency shelter for 28 men and a transitional home that accommodates 12 men. In addition, we serve three meals a day, seven days a week, every day of the year to anyone in need.

FOCUS is an acronym for Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve. FOCUS Minnesota is a non-profit 501c3 domestic charitable provider, part of a national Pan-Orthodox Christian agency, working operationally on pervasive and persistent issues of poverty in our communities. FOCUS Minnesota is an outreach of the Orthodox Christian churches in the greater Twin Cities area. Our mission is to the under-served poor, the homeless, and the working poor, providing them with Food, Occupation, Clothing, Understanding and Service (FOCUS). The outreach programs of FOCUS Minnesota are intended to enable FOCUS, and its partners, to meet the pressing demands of the poor and needy, and to initiate and/or augment charitable and humanitarian operations in the Twin Cities.

FOCUS Minnesota affirms and honors the image of God in every person, Christian, and non-Christian alike. We share our love for Christ and our neighbor indiscriminately. Our goal is to treat our neighbor in such a way that dignity is preserved in our serving and giving. We believe empowering people to help themselves is fundamental, although temporary and/or transitional assistance is often needed and freely given

Population(s) Served

FOCUS stands for two things: The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve and Food, Occupation, Clothing, Understanding, and Shelter.

FOCUS Detroit is the local chapter and center of FOCUS North America. We work to engage Orthodox Christian individuals and parishes and the greater community with those in need. We work to provide opportunities to fulfill Christ’s call to “Love God and neighbor” (Mt 22:36-40, Mk 12: 30-31).

Our Slogan:

“Creating a more beautiful Detroit from inside out.”

The short motto that holds great meaning and leads our ethos and guiding principals for ministry. We believe that the transformation of the heart, soul, mind, and body create a domino effect, moving to a more beautiful self, family, neighborhood, city, country, and world. Whether it is through enacting small change, or large, we believe that if done with love and intention, that this is what matters. We believe that it is both those who serve and those whgo are served that are transformed by authentic relationship.
