WJP Rule of Law Index
The WJP Rule of Law Index® is an innovative quantitative assessment tool designed by the World Justice Project offering a detailed and comprehensive picture of the extent to which countries adhere to the rule of law in practice. It provides original data regarding a variety of dimensions of the rule of law, enabling the assessment of a nation’s adherence to the rule of law in practice, identify a nation’s strengths and weaknesses in comparison to similarly situated countries, and track changes over time.
Engagement
The WJP’s Engagement initiatives convene partners from all work disciplines to build a global network, find common ground, and create practical solutions that advance the rule of law. Through the Roderick B. Mathews Opportunity Fund, the WJP provides seed grants to support these innovative efforts in communities around the world. Engagement events include the World Justice Forum, a global gathering at which prominent leaders and change agents from more than 100 countries come together to address critical rule of law issues. The WJP also undertakes single country sorties to help countries in periods of transition assess rule of law opportunities and challenges, convening a taskforce to develop recommendations for the country’s ongoing reform process.
Research and Scholarship
The WJP supports rigorous research that contributes to the global research agenda on rule of law issues by creating and nurturing a multidisciplinary community of scholars working on rule of law issues. This consortium of scholars is intended to become a repository of the best research on the rule of law for informing and aiding policymakers to translate research into action.
Access To Justice
Global Insights on Access to Justice is the first-ever effort to capture comparable data on legal needs and public access to civil justice on a global scale, representing the voices of more than 46,000 people in 45 countries.
Global Insights on Access to Justice: Findings from the World Justice Project General Population Poll in 45 Countries presents data on how ordinary people around the world navigate their everyday legal problems, highlighting the most common legal conflicts and courses of action, whether respondents are able to resolve their legal problems, and their satisfaction with the resolution process. The study also highlights respondents’ assessment of their own legal confidence and capability, hardships experienced as a result of their legal problem, and whether any party involved in the dispute resorted to violence.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
