USQ's membership program provides membership to teams and individuals that allow them to compete in sanctioned events, receive accident insurance coverage while playing, become eligible for grants, access player resources and training, join a broad player community, and have a voice in the future of the sport through opinion polls and surveys. In the 2021-22 season, 2,026 individuals and 92 teams joined our membership program.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

USQ's core values are:

We establish the foundation for long-term sustainability through innovation, regulations, and expansion.
We provide competitive opportunities for every level of athlete.
We build a safe, inclusive, and respectful community.
We strive to be a leader in gender inclusivity for all age groups.
We create meaningful community partnerships.
We develop and empower future leaders.

Our current strategic plan covers FYE 2019 to 2020, and had three key priorities:
1) Retention: Ensuring league stability and sustainability is focused on retention of current members, and providing high quality
services and programs.
2) Recruitment: Growing the number of official members in the league and overall size of the sport in the United States involves
recruitment of new players and teams.
3) Reach: Improving communication and marketing will expand the reach of the organization within our community and
of the sport in general.

USQ has three employees and over 70 regular and temporary volunteers. We have to connections to sports organizations like NIRSA and Sports ETA, as well as national governing bodies and other sports leagues. Over the past year, we have released several resources for teams to support them in their development, including guides for recruitment and fundraising. We receive financial and administrative assistance from dozens of cities across the United States to partner with us for major events that positively affect the growth of the sport and the communities in which quidditch is played.

Our FYE 2016 to 2018 strategic plan saw great success as we tracked the progress each year of benchmarks to achieve our overarching goals. We continue positive progress with our 2019 to 2021 strategic plan, and are already seeing great success through achievements like receiving the winning bid for Quidditch World Cup and the Pan-American Games, plus expanding resource availability. We look forward to continuing to accomplish our strategic plan goals.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
Policies and processes
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
