Mission

The Zoological Lighting Institute supports photobiology research for animal welfare & wildlife conservation. To build its scholarship fund and to advocate the necessity of scientific research in light related environmental initiatives, The Zoological Lighting Institute provides four distinct services. Our Member Program creates partnerships and families globally, encouraging data collection as it builds communities around themes of natural light. Our Shop provides the tools necessary to measure light scientifically, also providing educational materials natural light. The ZLI PhotoDiversity Film Festival supports creative media, and our PhotoDiversity Film Studio creates programming to support our mission. ZLI offers a design service for wildlife sensitive day/night lighting.

Brilliant Nights

Brilliant Nights encourages people and businesses to turn off all of their interior and exterior lighting for one night, using only one candle. The purpose is to overcome fear of the dark, and to familiarize communities with the natural environment in a peaceful, non-disaster induced blackout.
