What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Empower Me! Life Skills Education

The program focus is on personal youth development objectives such as self-esteem, self-confidence, effective problem solving, goal setting, creative self-expression, and healthy risk- taking. The social youth development areas of focus include respecting and understanding of personal and professional boundaries, conflict resolution, effective communication skills, cooperative team work, leadership skills and community involvement. The aforementioned twelve areas of youth development are presented during eight, three hour life skill classes during the educational cycle using methods of role playing, discussions, hands-on activities, home activities, viewing examples in the media or local news and/or any other medium that will add to their learning experience at the time the topic is being addressed. The program participants also take part in ‘Circle of Pride’ activities such as a visit to The City Museum and a day trip to Jefferson City, Missouri to visit the Supreme Court, The State Prison, Missouri State Museum and other local attractions. The objective of the trip to the state capitol is to bring to life for the youth the importance of being a registered voter, involved in their community and the history of Missouri.
