VNS Health Hospice Care

New Yorkers who live alone, or who have no one local who can help as their care needs increase, may choose to receive hospice care at VNSNY’s Shirley Goodman and Himan Brown Residence. This eight-bed residence, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, provides a full range of hospice services in a safe, serene, home-like setting.

The Veterans Program from VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care combines compassionate care and clinical best practices to provide specialize medical, spiritual, and emotional support to address the unique needs of veterans and their families. VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care is proud to have achieved the We Honor Veterans Partner Level Four status, the highest level a hospice provider can achieve.

VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care’s Physician Fellowship offers over 40 participants from 8 area medical centers carefully designed hospice rotations lasting up to three months. These rotations give the Fellows a unique, humanistic home health care experience that aims to be transformative for the next generation of physicians.

Launched in 2015, HOPE responds to a nationwide under-utilization of hospice services by African-Americans and Hispanics through a coordinated program of outreach and education to the Harlem community. HOPE addresses cultural and institutional barriers that prevent patients and families, physicians and other healthcare providers and community-based organizations, from accessing hospice services. HOPE works to strengthen collaborative relationships with Harlem organizations, including faith-based leaders, and increases awareness of hospice through media, education, outreach and counseling support services.
