What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

With Rockwall being one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas, and the increase of older adults in the county, there is a high demand for supportive services needed to maintain their independence. The program ensures proper nutrition, a safety check from the volunteer and the opportunity to receive additional services to maintain their independence and enhance the quality of life for homebound individuals. Overall, MOWSS’s vision and goals are for seniors and people with disabilities in Rockwall County to live a nourished life with independence and dignity.

Companions go through an application process and specialized training program before being matched with seniors or individuals with disabilities.

Ani-Meals is just one of the special services provided by Meals-on-Wheels of Rockwall County to homebound seniors and disabled people in local communities.
Volunteers deliver donated dog and cat food to Meals-on-Wheels recipients in their community, once a month. Ani-Meals prevents clients with limited resources from sharing their home-delivered meals with their pets. It enables seniors to keep their companion animals, providing companionship and special quality to their lives.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goals are to fulfill our mission and help the citizens of Rockwall County who fall within our focus to live happily and fulfilled lives.

Our organization's strategies are to focus on the mission and continue to partner with grant providers, foundations, and businesses to help fund our goals. In addition, MOWSS Executive Director and other grantors conduct an annual program performance monitoring and risk and compliance inspection. MOWSS is looking into expanding our available space to include on-site meals and to also provide an activity center for volunteers and clients.

Our organization's capabilities for meeting our goals are shown through our past success in achieving our mission and goals without ever having had a waiting list for services. As an awarded recipient of several federal, state, and county grants, our compliance has been exemplary, our reporting timely, and we have attained success in proposed projects to feed the seniors and provide additional resources for the elderly and disabled citizens of Rockwall County.

So far what we have accomplished our mission, we haven't yet accomplished some of our long term goals. MOWSS will proceed with a full-scale Feasibility Study to look into the early planning phases and determine whether a capital campaign is viable and sustainable for our organization in establishing a Senior Center. The Board, staff, and volunteers would like to meet the needs of seniors, today, tomorrow and generations to come.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
Policies and processes
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
