What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Program 1

Music instruction/ rehearsal: Each band received 18 weeks of instrumental music education before the pandemic closed our doors. A weekend retreat was held in January at a central Ohio group resident camp, which was used to allow the students to learn the art of performing as an ensemble. Volunteers rehearse a band section during sectional time, and the director holds full band rehearsals, for a total of 12-15 hours over a 2-1/2 day period. Purchase of sheet music, and maintenance of equipment is included in this expense allocation.

In a normal fiscal year, the bands perform 2-3 local concerts. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our performance opportunities were limited to the traditional first concert, held in mid- February each year. The concert was held in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Publicity through printed posters and social media was utilized to help garner interest from the public. Advertising expenses for the next 2 concerts were already committed when the statewide shutdown occurred.

$2,397

Travel is a normal part of the Bands' activities. This year, the only travel was to rent vans and trucks to get to the weekend retreat in Lebanon, Ohio. Normally, the groups travel to educational locations (typically an historic site where they can perform. They have also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City 3 different times.). As a result, the expenses for travel are much less than usual.
