Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Transitional Housing Program
Short term transitional housing program providing free apartment housing, professional services, life skills classes & direct supportive services, budget counseling & financial literacy training, and one-on-one case management counseling.
Young Adult Housing program
This program addresses the needs of young adults who are on their own and still needing to complete high school and further their education. The length of time the participant is in the program is based on the educational goals of the young adult. We walk alongside them as they complete their high school education and then help them set realistic educational goals to acquire the skills necessary to earn family sustaining wages into their future. We offer life skills and assistance saving for goals such as vehicles so that they are not dependent on anyone and can be self-reliant. We focus on building self-esteem and the realization that their potential is so much more than what they may have been told or believed in the past. We focus on the individual development of skills that matches their interests and propensity for success. The individuals who graduate our program are set to launch into a successful life in a healthy fashion to be healthy employees, healthy partners, healthy parents and healthy citizens in our community.
Volunteer Program
Engage volunteers from local community in hands-on work with at-risk population.
BLESSINGS
The Blessings program allows Hillcrest Platte County to reach those in the community who are insecurely housed before they arrive at the situation where they are homeless. The Blessings program is a high accountability way to help those in need while at the same time offering the skills they need to move forward in a self-supporting way. Hillcrest Platte County is partnering with local churches to centralize a location for all those who request help from the community churches to receive consistent training and resource referral. There will be a thorough tracking system to report back the differences that are being made by becoming involved in the lives of those who are being helped.
Thrift Store
The Hillcrest Thrift Stores in Kansas City North/Parkville & Platte City receive donated items, to re-sell to raise funds in support of the transitional housing program. This program is primarily staffed by volunteers, with some paid staff. The store provides vouchers to current & graduate clients of the Hillcrest transitional housing program, to provide them at no cost with basic clothing & household items.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
While we continue our current services, we are aiming to start a young adult housing program focusing on the education of young adults to be successful in transitioning to product citizens. We plan to build a dorm style building to house the homeless young adults while they complete the program.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are working with an architect to create blue prints for city approval. We are forming partnerships with donors and educational programs to partner with our staff to serve this population. We are currently able to house 10 young adults and are building our program and funding so we may house more of this population of unattached youth.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have hired a case manager who specializes in this age group as well as house parents with back grounds as youth pastors. Our facility is young adult friendly including a craft room and business center. We work with each young adult to set and achieve education goals so they may graduate our program with the skill set to earn a family sustaining wage.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have moved many young adults out on their own with the skills in place to achieve higher than minimum wage employment. Other skills they have developed include earning their driver's license and saving enough to purchase a car. Having transportation opens up the world of employment and school opportunities. We are please with the measurable results we have had in the lives of these young adults. We are still raising funds to expand our capacity.
