Mission

We provide lifetime sanctuary for older and managably disabled horses. A lifetime of service to humanity, in which they were injured or aged out, has earned them a peaceful retirement. They live in a herd environment every day, with individual stalls to be sure each horse's dietary and medication needs are met.  When our facility is full, we help to place older or disabled horses in suitable homes. We also work with other rescues who adopt horses out, and also try to help horses who do not fit our mission statement to find suitable homes. We work with Animal Services as well.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Right Now, TGC offers free riding lessons and instruction to local children in exchange for help with chores. Having the children actually clean stalls and fill water barrels and prepare feed helps them to understand the responsibilites involved in horse ownershihighschool students can earn community support credits working at TGC. TGC horses will be benefiting from Boy Scout projects, and providing horsemanship certification to those interested. With funding or contributions, TGC can expand and repair its own facilities and support more horses. If contributions will grow, it is TGC Founder Casey O'Connor's dream to set up more such facilities in other parts of California and neighboring states. In the meantime, I help to place horses whose owners can no longer keep them.

Population(s) Served

TGC's main mission is to provide a safe last haven for the old and damaged horses, who have given their lives and health in service to humanity. We don't take extreme measures, but make the elderly, and disabled, as comfortable as possible for the remainder of their lives, as a reward for service.

Population(s) Served

Taking older and/or managably disabled equines, for remainder of their natural days, providing sanctuary and a herd environment during the days, individual stalls for dinner, special needs diets, medications at night. Happy to have visitors/groups as most horses interact well with people even if they can no longer carry riders
