Keeping Families Together
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Baptist Children's Home works to help the children of families in need. This need can range from a family crisis to current inability to parent a child. We aim to stabilize the family, provide for the needs of the child, and provide a loving childhood to each child during their time in our care.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Hearts of Compassion
Hearts of Compassion is our international program focused on protection of vulnerable children by supporting family permanency. We care for families and children overseas in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Zambia. This care is done through family support, foster or adoptive homes, and group home care internationally, with a focus on keeping families together.
Homes of Compassion
Homes of Compassion provide a temporary home for children whose families are facing crises, at no cost to the parent. We work to help support families and help prevent child abuse or neglect. We provide support to parents who are isolated and benefit from community support.
BCH Cares
BCH Cares is our trauma and training ministry designed to educate adults who work with children, especially children who may have experienced trauma.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Baptist Children's Home provides Christian care for daily living.
We care for children in need in the United States through group homes, foster homes, volunteer homes, and adoption. We care for children overseas in four countries through group homes, foster homes, or orphanage care as culturally appropriate.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In the United States we work with churches and individuals who provide referrals and resources for our paid staff to care for children.
Internationally we work with groups of churches and foreign nationals to care for orphaned and semi-orphaned children. Through our Global Compassion Initiative, we have a Christian university, widow care, church planting, and ministries to the poor.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Many of our leadership staff have Master's degrees in Childcare Administration, Human Services, and Counseling. This education is used to supervise other staff members and provide quality care for our clients.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been caring for children since the 1950's. In 1995, we expanded to care for children in India. Since then, we have also expanded to Myanmar, Liberia, and Nepal. We started with one group home in India, and we now care for 1,000 children internationally. In 2013, we began a partnership with Safe Families for Children. This has enabled us to care for more than 100 children each year who are at great risk in northern Indiana.
In 2021, our mission has expanded into Zambia. These homes are helping care for children including their food, housing, clothing, and education.
In 2022, we expanded into caring for children in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
