What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Public school music teachers often have very small budgets to engage their students and can struggle to prove their value in their districts, resulting in poor class times that make it difficult for students to choose music as their elective if they have graduation requirements to meet. National and State testing priorities can prohibit direct funding and support of music curriculum. We have a 3 year $3M reach goal starting this year in 2024

Music Education Innovator Award

Awarding public school music programs led by creative music educators utilizing innovative and sustainable strategies in non-traditional or traditional primary and secondary (grades 1-12) music courses that attract students not typically enrolled in music education courses, in efforts to increase access to music education through diversity in curriculum and approach.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Give A Note aims to support K-12 public school music educators by acknowledging their work and passion and providing financial support to accomplish their goals. Give A Note also works to provide platforms for educators to share their success and how they've overcome challenges, thereby inspiring peers around the country. We have a 3 year $3M reach goal starting in 2024.

Give A Note Foundation actively seeks out partners who understand the value the experiences and skills gained through music study. Each year, the foundation works closely to develop collaborative campaigns that celebrate the power of music in everyone's lives. Working with partners within and outside of the music education community allows us to reach a broad audience with our powerful message.

Give A Note Foundation awards grants through the Music Education Innovator Award and Music Tech Empowers programs to support improving equitable access to music learning for all students at the school.

Give A Note is positioned to fulfill its mission due to reliable partner and community relationships, strong brand equity, and a passion for success.

Give A Note Foundation has provided more than $1.5 million in grants to 275 schools in over 100 communities in the U.S. Additionally, we have conducted five national awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of music education for all students.

In Spring 2018 we awarded and acknowledged 5 extraordinarily innovative public school K-12 music educators with our inaugural Music Education Innovators Award thanks to founding partner, the Country Music Association Foundation. To date, 29 exceptional music educators have been recognized with our Music Education Innovators Award.

In response to a national need created by COVID-19, the GAN team established the Lets Play Music Fund
(LPMF) in August 2020 to provide music-specific instrument masks and protective bell covers to K-12 public school music programs in underserved schools to help students return to in-person learning safely. Music program budgets were cut or frozen, and aerosol concerns prohibited many students from participating in the music classroom. Over 13,000 pieces of PPE were donated to qualified schools in 18 states, validating the need for this specific initiative. Requests were fulfilled through a needs-based assessment that included the schools Title 1 status, % of students on free/reduced lunch, % of minority students, verified music program budget restrictions, and expected date of return to in-person instruction.

As of 2024 we have provided $1.5M in Grants to 280+ Schools and impacting over 80K+ Students. Our 3 year goal is $3M starting in 2024 - impacting an additional 30+ schools where we help establish a music education program in schools were there currently is not a full time music education program.
