Free instruction is offered to adults for GED preparation, Adult Basic Education in reading, writing, math and critical thinking. English as a Second Language and English language civics, Job preparation and life skills education, and Family Literacy. Professionally taught classes are supplemented by one-to-one tutoring, volunteer-led group instruction, and supervised computer skill development. Literacy Chicago also coordinates "Reach Out and Read", an early literacy program, in over 60 Chicago-area pediatric clinics.
