Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To provide opportunities for the most challenged youth in our community to change their behaviors, attitudes, and perspective on life to address increased violent behaviors, truancy, suspensions, and low academic achievement.
To impact the lives of young people in a positive way by motivating and encouraging them to value their lives, others’ lives, and their community.
To challenge youth to be their agents of change, establishing hope and belief in their ability to succeed and live a healthy, happy, prosperous life.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Utilize the community resources within the CDC thematic areas to create and enact personal violence-free lifestyle plans.
To strengthen skills and competencies in the following areas:
• Active listening skills
• Non-judgmental attitude
• Providing options for services and resources
• Excellent search – and research – skills
• Knowledge of resources
• Use ethical principles in peer mentoring relationships
• Promote the welfare and safety of your peer
• Be trustworthy and responsible
• Act with integrity
• Promote justice for your peer
• Respect your peer’s rights and dignity
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Youth Ambassadors, using their own experience, they will and have modeled the process for the new Youth Ambassadors and help them develop their own violence-free lifestyle plans. A Mentorship model is used since it is known that a peer-to-peer relationship helps in the communication flow.

- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
