Programs and results

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Adults with intellectual disability are among the most vulnerable populations in North America, and though research shows more than half want to engage with a church, more than 70% are missing from the local church. While many churches understand the biblical basis for addressing this, the simple question of “HOW?” can sometimes provide a seemingly insurmountable barrier.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Friendship Groups

Friendship Groups are made up of people with and without disabilities meeting together to build relationship, serve their communities, worship and study the Bible with materials designed to be inclusive of people of abilities.

Population(s) Served

We come alongside church leaders with resources and training to equip them for creating belonging with people with disabilities in their congregations.

Population(s) Served

Together, an inclusive adult Bible study curriculum available by online subscription, provides learners of all abilities options for participation. It is designed using principles of Universal Design for Learning so that each participant can grow in relationship with God and with one another.

Population(s) Served

Our staff spend 12 months coaching the church leadership toward congregational transformation where everyone in the community flourishes in their relationships with each other and their Savior.

Goals & Strategy

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Create culture change in the church across the United States so that local churches are places creating belonging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, not just doing "ministry to" or "ministry for" them. Our goals focus on engaging church leadership in awareness of and intentionally connecting with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide practical strategies for making real and simple changes in their congregational practices,

Bolster organizational focus and sustainability through assessing, pruning and nurturing resources, projects, programming, and key geographical areas of focus.
Partner with 100 churches in the next 12 months, using research-based resources to create real and lasting change.

Through board and staff, and partnerships with Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities, the Disability Ministry Network, Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, and other partners, as well as through online marketing (utilizing a contract company specializing in marketing that is passionate about this work), and local connections, we are broadening and deepening our connections with churches, and learning what is most effective.
We have strong leadership, and skills in educating, leading, inspiring, and equipping.
Our position of having a 40-year legacy while also having a fresh, new start and brand uniquely provides us with opportunities to leverage long-lasting commitments as well as introduce new ideas and relationships.

We have launched a new brand and website, and updated at least 5 content-rich resources for church leaders that have proven to be valuable and unique. We have become known as collaborative thought-leaders, experts in our field, and assets to partner organizations. We are sought after to speak at national ministry conferences where church leaders gather to learn and be equipped. We have broadened our donor base and connected with churches in two key regions (Grand Rapids, MI and Dallas, TX) through events and committed cohorts, as well as engaged with churches all across the USA through our online resources and direct mail. We have refined our focus, eliminating programs that were not sustainable, and expanded our staffing to increase our effectiveness. Our board and staff have pursued grants and donor funding with success, which has propelled us into a strong position and allowed us to launch cohorts, publish resources, improve systems and our workplace, and hire staff.
