Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Project Clean Streams

There are eight tributaries flowing into Green Lake totaling 57.5 miles in length. Some of these tributaries are classified as exceptional waters while others are listed on the impaired waters list. More than 10 miles of tributaries are in need of immediate restoration to reduce the amount of phosphorus entering Green Lake. When phosphorus from eroding streams makes its way into Green Lake, it pollutes the water and fuels weed and algae growth.

Population(s) Served

Green Lake's drainage area is 107 square miles, 65% of which is agricultural. Project Green Acres focuses on building a community of farmers who are economically and environmentally sustainable, and who are conscious of the need to reduce phosphorus in the agricultural runoff. Just one pound of phosphorus is enough to fuel the growth of 500 pounds of weed and algae.

Population(s) Served

Invasive species permanently damage our lake by increasing aquatic plant growth, destroying native fish populations, devastating the natural food chain, and degrading overall biodiversity. Project Invader Defense aims to manage or reduce invasive species currently in the lake, such as carp, zebra mussels. Eurasian water-milfoil, to name a few, and to prevent new aquatic invasive species, such as spiny water flea, quagga mussels and starry stonewort from entering the lake.
