GRANTS MADE TO SAFE SITES TO HELP ESTABLISH EXTENDED HOURS THAT WILL PROVIDE YOUTHS WITH A SAFE PLACE TO GO.

Population(s) Served

Volunteer barbers offer grooming services to youth. During the scheduled time an open dialogue session is facilitated by youth organizers giving youth an opportunity to discuss real topics on challenges, hopes and realities of life. In return, youth sign up to return for future community service projects.

Population(s) Served

Officers and youth from Milwaukee schools and organizations are gathered in small groups in which a dialogue session is facilitated. Youth are given a rare opportunity to ask just about any question of the officers and get an authentic response. Officers are meeting youth "off the beat" and hearing their questions and concerns. All participants are respectful and safe and begin opening up throughout the session - often having transformative experiences.

Population(s) Served

The 27th Street West Drug Free Coalition is a community coalition based in the 53208 zip code on Milwaukee’s west side. The coalition’s focus is to prevent youth alcohol and marijuana use by changing environmental factors that increase the risk of youth substance use through a combination of community organizing, network building and support of positive youth programming.
