Mission

As citizens of this community, we have partaken of its material and spiritual wealth. Through its benevolence, we have shared with its greatness and now enjoy a way of life that allows us to help alleviate the sufferings of this largely impoverished and troubled world. Therefore we, Filipino-Americans and our friends of this community, have established the Philippine Cultural and Civic Center Foundation, Inc. Through this foundation, which aims to construct a building to house some activities of the community, we hope to bring to the American consciousness the richness of our background, as well as the significance of our contributions to this country. In addition, we also aim to provide services of a civic nature, which would otherwise be difficult or too costly for some people to obtain. Above all, it is our fervent hope that through this foundation, we will help raise generations of citizens who will continue to contribute to the greatness of America and help mold its moral conscience.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The PCCCF's programs include Filipino (Tagalog) language classes, services for new immigrants, social events that feature traditional foods and folk dances, martial arts classes, art exhibits, and a free medical clinic providing health care to the underinsured. The PCCCF also maintains a collection of Philippine information and fine arts. Several groups have made use of the PCCCF?s library in order to prepare cultural projects for school. The PCCCF also serves as a resource for families that have adopted Philippine children and want to learn about their child's ethnic heritage. Several such families were assisted by the PCCCF within the last year.

The programs of the PCCCF have served hundreds of people in southeastern Wisconsin, and have become an integral part of the annual Asian Moon Festival in Milwaukee. The PCCCF has helped sponsor Philippine storytellers and authors, as well as music and dance concerts. The great majority of people who have taken the Tagalog language classes are non-Filipino Americans. Filipino cooking demonstrations, traditional clothing exhibits, and seasonal celebrations have all been shared with the community through the hard work and commitment of the PCCCF. At the same time, the PCCCF has organized numerous activities for young people, including chess matches, dances, martial arts seminars, and basketball and table tennis tournaments.

The PCCCF Clinic provides the following services, completely free of charge:
treatment of acute, non-life threatening medical conditions; treatment of minor trauma; well baby and child exams; day care exams and school, camp, or sports physicals;
pre-employment exams, including tuberculosis skin testing; blood pressure testing; cholesterol screening; blood sugar screening; anemia screening; vision screening; immunizations for children up to 18 years of age; and flu shots for children and adults.

The PCCCF Clinic does NOT provide:
prenatal care; psychiatric counseling; immigration physicals; treatment of work-related injuries; prescription of any controlled drugs; weight loss programs;
x-ray services; or prescription of ?lifestyle? medications, such as Viagra or Propecia.

The PCCCF Free Medical Clinic operates two Saturday mornings a month, and serves low-income and disadvantaged people regardless of race, age, gender, religion, residency, employment or immigration status. The health care given at the clinic is provided by Filipino and other doctors and medical professionals as a service to the community absolutely free.

The PCCCF Free Medical Clinic serves low-income and disadvantaged people regardless of race, age, gender, religion, residency, employment or immigration status. Services and medications are provided to all absolutely free.

The PCCCF Free Medical Clinic operates two Saturday mornings a month, and offers basic medical treatment, exams, screenings, and routine immunizations for those who would otherwise not be able to afford care. The health care given at the clinic is provided by Filipino and other doctors and medical professionals. The Clinic is under the direction of Violeta Singson, M.D., a pediatrician with many years of experience in the Milwaukee area, and a passion for helping the disadvantaged and underprivileged.

The PCCCF Clinic does NOT provide:

The ongoing financial requirements of the Clinic include rent for space, the cost of medications and tests, and blood and urine screenings. The closing of the emergency room at St. Michael’s Hospital has also had a negative impact on access to care in many of Milwaukee’s poorer neighborhoods. Because the cost of health care and the number of uninsured in continues to rise while the economy worsens, this program is a vital and potentially life-saving program for people in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
