What we aim to solve
In Minnesota, there are 9,900 children in foster care on any given day, and 820 children eligible for adoption from Minnesota foster care. These children wait for loving, safe, and dedicated families. Internationally, there are thousands of children, living with identified needs, or as part of sibling groups who are waiting for loving, adoptive homes.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Child & Family Support Programs
Foster Care & Adoption Services - Children's Home serves as the vital link to find families for children and is committed to helping those touched by adoption throughout their lives. Our programs consist of:
Minnesota Foster Care - We educate, license and prepare foster families to be a resource through foster care, relative/kinship services, concurrent planning, respite and emergency shelter care. These families open their caring, safe homes to some of the 9,900 children in Minnesota's foster care system on an average day.
Minnesota Foster Care Adoption - We help children under state guardianship who have experienced the trauma of neglect and abuse join families committed to love and care for them forever. We provide education to families across the state to aid them in meeting these children's needs and helping them feel the security of a permanent family.
International Adoption - We are a recognized leader in providing international adoption services. We provide complete adoption services for children from six countries in Asia and Latin America.
Post Adoption Services - Our commitment to children and families doesn't end with the adoption process. Children's Home was the first agency in the nation to develop a post adoption services program. It offers adopted persons, birth parents and adoptive parents a wide range of services tailored to the individual needs of each person and family and recognizes adoption as a lifelong experience.
Global Family Support - Through our international adoption programs and other outreach efforts, we are reminded daily of the need to support vulnerable children throughout the world. Donors to our global family support projects help provide medical equipment, food, school supplies, support for facilities where children live, and resources for family preservation groups.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Providing safety and permanency to children through foster care and adoption, as well as access to post adoption services to adoptees, birth families, and adoptive families throughout their lifetime.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Recruit, train and educate families so they are prepared to responsibly open their homes for children waiting for foster and adoptive homes. Complete this work in an ethical and transparent way, with the needs of the child at the center of what we do. Provide lifelong support to adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents as they process and grow throughout the years.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
In 2019, we have 130 years of experience building families in Minnesota and across the United States.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Over 26,000 children have joined adoptive families through our services. Over the past three years, our post adoption services have served more and more adoptees, birth families and adoptive families with accessing documents, search and reunion, birthland tours, and other services.
