Big Sunday

Big Sunday connects people through helping.

We are based on the idea that absolutely everyone has some way that they can help somebody else – and that we get so much more done when we do it together.

We were founded in 1999 as Temple Israel of Hollywood’s Mitzvah Day. Over the years we have grown from a single day of service to a year-round independent, non-denominational, multicultural nonprofit organization that engages and empowers more than 50,000 people of all ages and backgrounds every year, and offers more than 2000 ways for people to help somebody else.

Today, we are a clearinghouse of ways to pitch in, give back, and help out. We have projects for all passions and all talents. (A full list of our wide variety of programs is available on our website.) People participate in Big Sunday events through schools, faith groups, businesses, clubs, teams and as individuals and families. We’ve done projects from Australia to the UK, and in eleven different states.

Big Sunday does not see people as “haves-and-have-nots,” but rather as “haves-and-have-mores”; everyone is able to provide something. We are happy that we often blur the line between helpers and those being helped. Big Sunday has a proud history of being able to attract people of all ages and backgrounds who often don’t participate in helping and/or giving opportunities. These people often discover they’re capable of doing far more than they’d thought, and return to help again and again. We work with hundreds of nonprofits and schools, and constantly steer people to organizations that are appreciative for their help.

We have no religious or political agenda, and all of our events are free for all participants.

Perhaps best of all, Big Sunday is a large and growing community of people who agree with us that we’ve got to work together. After all, we’re all in it together.
