Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The Warrior for Life Fund is focused on raising funds for, and providing leadership to local adult and youth hockey programs. We seek to professionalize and expand existing hockey programs which support not only the Naval Special Warfare community but also the greater military community of the Hampton Roads area.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
WFLF - Adaptive Hockey
The WFLF Adaptive Hockey Sled Program is made up of a group of mentors and athletes committed to promoting camaraderie, competition, and athleticism to those with disabilities.
Our goal is to introduce the game of hockey for those in Hampton Roads military community that are unable to play stand-up hockey. The WFLF Hockey Program seeks to develop a team atmosphere and a positive environment for mentors and athletes who want to learn to play hockey. There are no physical limitations to join the team but require a strong work ethic, dedication, and a positive attitude.
WFLF - Memorial Games
The Warrior For Life Fund is dedicated to supporting the NSW and their families in the Hampton Roads area as they transition through the unique challenges of combat service. We honor the sacrifices made by NSW members and Gold Star families. Twice each year we honor Gold Star families by bringing together the NSW community to celebrate the life and legacy of fallen heroes through the game of hockey. The Warrior for Life Fund aims to provide programs, venues and infrastructure to support these service members and their families long-term.
WFLF - Active Duty and Veteran Hockey Programs
The Warrior For Life Fund hosts several unique recurring events aimed at building relationships within the community, introducing hockey to and developing new players, and providing and outlet for NSW members and other active duty and veteran players to come together.
The WFLF 'Virginia Beach Hockey Club' program is focused on providing a family friendly atmosphere for ice hockey players to come together and enjoy the game. Our goal is to promote the sport, exercise and have fun.
The WFLF 'D-League' is a year-round program aimed at introducing hockey to active duty and retired military members, and the greater Hampton Roads community at large, who possess limited or no ice hockey experience. The program focuses learning the game of hockey while playing the games.
The WFLF NSW League is focused on bringing together NSW and other Active Duty and Veteran hockey players weekly in a 'pick up-style' competitive game.
WFLF - Face Off For Heroes
The WFLF 'FOFH' program brings together NHL Alumni and WFLF teams in competitive fundraiser events. Our annual events bring together our players and families to provide a unique experience. This program provides the opportunity to showcase WFLF programs and forge new relationships both inside and outside the hockey community. FOFH events have been hosted a the Bentley Arena and Warrior Ice Center in Boston, Madison Square Garden in New York, and locally in Virginia Beach.
WFLF - Community Involvement
The WFLF is not only focused on Active Duty and veterans, but is also involved in local youth hockey programs as mentors and coaches. Our presence in the community builds awareness and support for other WFLF programs. WFLF partners with the Hampton Roads Youth Hockey Association with an aim toward providing mentorship and instilling a greater sense of community.
