Mission

Our Mission Statement

The mission of Florida Yorkie Rescue is to rescue Yorkies, Yorkie mixes and other small breeds regardless of age or additional handicaps that may be associated with aging or birth defects. We never discriminate on the basis of health, age or breed.

We pledge to promote responsible pet ownership through humane education and to provide shelter and care to our foster dogs until a loving, responsible home can be found. To evaluate each dog and potential home with the goal of matching our dogs to the best possible home. We also provide life-long, quality sanctuary for yorkies that may be too old or ill for adoption.

Notes from the nonprofit

During the many years of our organization's existence, almost 20 years now, we have never refused a dog that was surrendered to us regardless of age, illness or required medical treatment. That is; until Covid (2020) when our funding began to dry up significantly. It halted our plans to create the first Senior Yorkie Sanctuary in the State of Florida and although we hold onto that dream we have yet to make it a reality. For more information about our proposed sanctuary you can log onto our other website: www.YorkieHouse.org . We continue to struggle financially as all non-profits have during the past several years but we continue to hold our faith strong knowing that God always has a plan for us and all will be done in his own timing. If you cannot make a donation to our Rescue (www.floridayorkierescue.org) we would appreciate you keeping us in your prayers. Thank you for reading our statement dated June 20203. (Our amended IRS docs have been filed with IRS & uploaded here)

Save Our Seniors

We created a special Program just for our Seniors Yorkies. The rate of senior yorkies being surrendered to Florida Yorkie Rescue or at local shelters has reached an alarming rate. Many of them have been sadly neglected, others are ill and in need of expensive medical care. It is very difficult to find new homes for these dogs as most families are more interested in the younger dogs. It is heartbreaking but we persevere and try to save as many as we can. When a new senior arrives we provide all the needed medical care and in many instances they become a permanent foster dog because of the inability to find new homes for these dogs.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Florida Yorkie Rescue's latest goal is to create a senior yorkie sanctuary for aging yorkies and other small breed dogs that have been abandoned or left in shelters and have special needs or age related illnesses. We will also provide a Lifetime Caregiving program for yorkie owners who wish to create a Pet Trust for their dogs (of any age) in the event of their illness or passing. Our sanctuary will provide perpetual care and companionship for the remainder of their lives.

We continue to raise awareness to the public of the need of these senior dogs that are being abandoned or discarded in record numbers.

Currently we have a large groups of volunteers who foster many of the senior dogs we receive in our program that provide permanent care for them. Our future goal is of course, to provide a facility for these dogs.

We have not yet raised enough funds to create this much needed facility.
