Military Recreational Therapeutic Retreats

A four-night retreat in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas at various retreat and camp sites, is available at no cost to all eligible veterans, active duty, Guard and Reserve personnel who have completed a deployment or have experienced a lengthy separation. The family must submit an application via the website. Transportation to the retreat is available by request and as funding permits. All meals, beverages and snacks are provided free of charge. All activities are also at no cost to the family. A counselor is on site and available 24/7 during each retreat. Classes in parenting, marriage and financial responsibility are also available to attendees. The specific recreational activities offered vary by season and include horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, and family/team building activities, horseback riding, hikes and other activities as determined by weather or physical limitations. Each retreat incorporates a “Heroes Night Out.” The veteran and his/her spouse are treated to an elegant dinner out served at a four/five-star restaurant. Menu and service are designed especially for this special night out and honor the veteran and the spouse for the service and sacrifices they have made as a couple. Families are enrolled in the program and participate in surveys and other contacts for an eighteen month period. Resources and other information are provided to the family throughout that period.
