What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

ASCC connects our community to art, prioritizing programming for low-income individuals and communities. Childhood poverty rates in some small towns and rural areas are over 19%, and many school districts have rising levels of low-income students. Seniors also face isolation due to very limited/nonexistent public transportation in our rural area. 90% of our art programming is free, making art accessible to all.

Art in the Library

ASCC's free word-and-image based "Art in the Library" programs in small town and rural libraries and schools throughout Columbia County promote literacy and creativity by creating word-inspired artwork. The library-based programs draw together students across age groups, income levels, and school districts. The programs encourage the students to teach others as they create

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

ASCC’s mission is nurturing creativity and community through the visual arts, and our vision is "imagining art for everyone." The Art School of Columbia County connects our community to art.

For children, ASCC teaches free word-and-image based Art in the Library programs in small town and rural libraries and schools throughout Columbia County.

ASCC's Art & Memories programs bring art to seniors in need.

Classes, discussions and exhibits promote connections between regional artists and our community. A need-based scholarship program funds up to 90% of tuition.

ASCC’s programs are accessible to persons of all ages, abilities and means.

1) ASCC prioritizes art outreach programs - 70% of our art programming is out in the community, and 100% of our art outreach programming is free.
2) We serve all of Columbia County: we work with 5 school districts and 9 community libraries, and the programs are also at no cost to the schools or libraries.
3) We fund a need-based scholarship programs and need-based memberships to make our fee-based programs (10% of our programming) accessible to all.

ASCC is entering its seventh year, and has developed its outreach programs for 6 years. A professional staff of a part-time Executive Director, accomplished teaching artist faculty who hold MFA/MA degrees, and a robust volunteer program of over 35 volunteers working in partnership make our programming possible.

We serve over 1500 members of our community each year, with work in 5 school districts, 9 community libraries, and senior centers.

Our goal for 2019-20 is to rehabilitate a small barn to create a learning space for low-income school groups and artist demonstrations and to create an art walking tour of our historic landscape which is accessible to all.
