Putting Art in the galaXy
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Miami (FL) is very young and it is growing at tremendous speed, becoming epicenter in many fields, including the arts. In this transformation to a cosmopolitan city, lot of work needs to be done so also a "soul" is created in the process. The social challenge per se, is to be inclusive and never left those individuals with less economical resources out of the movement. While visiting a city, there are always shows you can attend. They have unquestionable artistic quality, but once you are inside the venue you could be in Miami, London, or Paris; they don't represent the city's personality. People today emphasize finding meaning in what they do, and they look for those intimate spaces and experiences where they can taste and feel the uniqueness of the city they are visiting while connecting with locals, artists and the community. That's what PAXy is trying to offer.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Wake up Miami!
Free live music at Metrorail/Metromover stations every Monday morning at 8:30 am. The programs feature classical, jazz, folk, and world music presented by Miami-based performers and art students. Dance and performance complemented some of the events.
Any person who uses the Miami Metrorail/Metromover or who lives or works near the stations will have access to this program and learn from it.
to Art is to Live
This events consist in renting a big space like a warehouse to hold an entire day of art. The activities could include live music, visual art, performance, video/film projection, installation, etc.
Are you cinematic?
"Are you cinematic?" is a preferred space for cinema lovers. PAXy provides an alternative to the mainstream film experience, showing high-quality films. International film festivals, film school productions, cult movies, and masterpieces of all times are the source to celebrate and promote the films' artistic elements and to nature and promote the art of filmmaking itself.

Context Notes
After its five-year life, "Wake up Miami!" took some time off last 2020 to reconnect, explore, and go into the wild. PAXy produced an original series of seven art shorts filmed in the Everglades.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Offering free art, PAXy attracts people and contribute to their well being, as there is evidence that the arts have a positive impact on health and quality of life. Those individuals with limited economic resources feel they are part of something larger, the community, and that the community is engaging them. At the same time, new and unique performance spaces for music students and local artists are created. Our projects not just educate in the arts, but also bring life and movement to public spaces in the city, promote the use of public transportation, create meeting points for community members, and activate unexpected spaces where artists can showcase their work.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
PAXy provides FREE high-quality art experiences to the Miami community, presenting them in a fun, inspiring and creative way. Also, we create new and unique performance spaces for artists and art students, showcasing their talents and adding life and movement to said spaces. We aim to engage individuals, artists, and the public, bringing them together as a community.
Free and open to the public, and bring art to people's everyday lives surprising them in their daily routine are the key strategies.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
PAXy has proved its capabilities in the best possible way, by actually doing it. Since 2015, the organizations has provided unique and meaningful arts programming for the Miami Community. It has won multiple awards and the community's love and recognition.
How do we change established pattern and create new ways of working and living that can benefit anyone around us?- has been one of our biggest challenge. Both PAXy's founders are coming from backgrounds different than the non for profit sector. In these years we have advanced moved for common sense, the energy of doing what we like, and an invaluable group of friends and volunteers who believe in us and in the mission of the organization.
We strongly believe, and are trying to prove possible, that contributions from those who can invest in a happier and more educated community will be enough to involve those who can't afford to pay for art, and we all together will became a stronger community and make Miami a better place to live. We have received invaluable help from friends and an increasing number of PAXy's fans.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Production: Fully-dedicated core team of two, and project-based paid contributors.
Programming: Wake up Miami!, PAXy' signature project grown in number of stations, events, arts manifestations, and genres presented. New projects, including collaboration with international artists. Wake up Miami! has been honored to be one of the Knight Foundation Arts Challenge, and Diversity and Inclusion Award from State of Florida Department of Cultural Affairs winner.
Investing locally: PAXy presented and collaborated with many local artists and arts organizations, but local businesses are benefiting too. We have never allowed our scarce money resources to be an impediment to practice what we believe in, and boosting local businesses is one of our values. We're keeping true to our standards: printing in 100% post-consumer paper, water in glass bottles, locally hand-printed, U.S.-made t-shirts in 100% organic cotton, etc; we have given our business to a number of local firms: Copy Express, Terri Harrer Freelancer, Sur Real, Funky Yoga, DP3 Studio, DAAS.
Marketing: For the first time, in 2018 Miami-Dade Transit offered us a Cross-Promotion to let more people know about the Wake up Miami! series. Posters in 600 buses and 136 metrorail wagon interiors were running throughout the city. And the latest love of our lives: Chao, a metromover wrapped with Wake up Miami! ads, one on each side.
What is next? To keep expanding Wake up Miami! to more city's metrorail/metromover stations and make the programming year-round. To increase the number of projects and areas widening the audience and serving more and more diverse groups. To contribute to help Miami becomes a cultural epicenter of Americas :)
