Mission

The mission of the Virginia Range Sanctuary (VRS) is to protect, aid and preserve the animals of the Virginia Range in Nevada, including the wild/feral/estray horses. In doing so, we also aim to safeguard and revitalize their habitat in order to benefit the entire ecosystem. Key activities include: rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned foals and horses with life-threatening injuries or illness, addressing public safety concerns through approved measures, implementation of humane management strategies to optimize herd size and health, promoting public interest and support for the Virginia Range wild/feral/estray horses, and a long-term goal of acquiring land to create an on-the-range sanctuary.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Wild Horse Rehabilitation & Adoption

We are currently rehabilitating wild horses who have been removed from the range for various reasons, primarily health or public safety related, and carefully adopting them to proper homes where they can live a full and healthy life. Our orphan program has become quite busy with many foals who have needed extensive medical care before it is possible to place them in forever homes.
