What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Obama Scholars

The Obama Foundation Scholars program supports dynamic, collaborative, rising leaders from the United States and around the world in an innovative one-year academic and leadership experience developed in partnership with world-class higher education institutions. The program gives rising leaders who are already making a difference in their communities the opportunity to take their work to the next level.

Your gift will empower individuals with a proven commitment to service with the tools and networks they need to make their efforts more effective, to identify solutions to complex global problems, and promote change through values-based leadership.

Population(s) Served

The Obama Foundation Leaders program supports and connects emerging regional leaders. The Leaders program is a six-month leadership development and community engagement program that connects leaders across regions and engages them in values-based leadership development, skillbuilding for social change, and hands-on design workshops. We have three continental Leaders programs: Africa, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Your support ensures program elements include immersive leadership training convenings, digital platforms for learning and connections, and ongoing engagement and support for action.

Population(s) Served

In the aftermath of the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin, President Obama called on Americans to recognize that we all have a stake in the success of our nation’s boys and young men of color. He created My Brother’s Keeper, an organization dedicated to breaking down the barriers and clearing pathways that can lead boys and young men of color to opportunity. Today, My Brother Keeper Alliance has a home within the Obama Foundation..

Your giving through the Obama Foundation ensures we can continue the work that began back in 2014, helping us lead a national call to action to build safe and supportive communities for boys and young men of color.

Population(s) Served

Today, more than 98 million adolescent girls around the world are not in school. When girls get the opportunities they deserve, amazing things start to happen; poverty goes down, economies grow, families get stronger, and babies are born healthier. The Girls Opportunity Alliance seeks to empower adolescent girls around the world through education, allowing them to achieve their full potential and transform their families, communities, and countries.

Your gift will help the Obama Foundation support girls’ education around the world through utilizing our platforms to convene and support grassroots leaders, lifting up organizations doing this work, and using high-profile public awareness to drive action for adolescent girls’ education.

Population(s) Served

The Foundation's work is rooted in the Obamas’ hometown—Chicago. In 2021, we broke ground on the future Obama Presidential Center, which will be the hub for the Foundation’s work. At the Center, visitors will learn about the Obama presidency and the personal journeys of Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as the history of those who made their stories possible.

While the Obama Presidential Center will celebrate the legacy of President and Mrs. Obama, it won’t be an exercise in nostalgia. We’re building the Center to give our programs, our community, and our vision a new home base. When the Center opens in the fall of 2025, visitors will be prompted to reflect on how they, too, can move from hope to action that leads to lasting change. Your support of the Obama Foundation will help the Obama Presidential Center inspire a new generation of citizen activists to rise to the challenges of our time—challenges they can help us meet.
